FEMA Head Pushed Out After Breaking With Trump
The acting head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Cameron Hamilton, was reportedly forced out of the agency on Thursday amid uncertainty over its future. Multiple outlets reported the ouster citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
The president and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, whose department oversees FEMA, have said that the agency should be disbanded in favor of letting states handle their own disaster aid. FEMA currently aims to provide a coordinated federal response to natural disasters like wildfires and hurricanes, which will be in season along the East Coast in three weeks.
Hamilton had just testified before Congress on Wednesday in support of his agency, asserting that he did not believe it was in the American people's best interest to eliminate it.
Trump Considering Fox News' Jeanine Pirro For D.C. U.S. Attorney: Report
Trump is considering Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as his next pick for interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, according to an ABC News report.
Pirro would replace Ed Martin, who Trump said Thursday will be stepping down from his interim role and will not take the position permanently.
Pirro, a former prosecutor, has been a longtime supporter of Trump. Last month, she said Trump is "not afraid of anything" and has defended Trump's disastrous trade war.
“This is what Donald Trump ran on and he’s delivering,” she said on “The Five” in April as the stock market plummeted. “And you know what? I don’t really care about my 401(k) today. You know why? Not that I can afford it, not that it isn’t important, not that I’m not at a point in my life when I should be worried about my 401(k) because I am, but this is what I believe.”
