It’s safe to say that you won’t be seeing a Tina Fey line of frames at your local LensCrafters anytime soon.
On Tuesday, Amy Poehler debuted her new podcast, “Good Hang,” and had her BFF and fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum, Fey, as her first guest.
About 28 minutes into the episode, Poehler remarks on how Fey has really great hair and told listeners that she’s been pushing the “Mean Girls” creator to have “a hair campaign” or “a glasses line” for years, to Fey’s obvious chagrin.
Sensing that Fey was annoyed by this suggestion, Poehler asked: “Why do you not have a glasses line? You hate money?”
“I… do kind of hate money,” Fey joked. “As we know, I’m terrible with money.”
“I’m not terrible with money only in that I don’t waste money, but I don’t get excited about money,” Fey clarified, and noted that she’s totally fine with just having “enough money to live.”
Fey went on to explain why the idea of her slinging shampoo gives her the ick.
“I have a problem with rich people having a side hustle,” Fey said.
“Yeah. You mean like a podcast or something?” Poehler said, clearly poking fun at herself.
“No, because you’re doing work. I’m saying if you sold, like… Where would my line be for you… Where would I draw the line?” Fey mused.
“Yeah, I know what you mean,” Poehler said. “If I had a rosé…”
“Yeah,” Fey winced, saying that she takes issue with people who have “$200 million” and then ask their fans for more, before cutting herself off.

“But Tina, this is where you have to learn from Gen Z. I’m sorry, we have to,” Poehler said.
“They don’t care,” Fey agreed of celebrity brands that are very popular with younger people. “They don’t judge it. I judge it.”
Although Fey and Poehler don’t mention any brands by name, Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty and Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty are both very popular among younger consumers.
Fey then went on to describe the source of her irritation toward celebrity brands — saying that “a million years ago,” there was an “’80s actress” who “promoted her line of homeopathic children’s medication.”
“Why on this Earth would I trust an actress for pediatric medications?” Fey recalled while cracking up.
Although some users on X, formerly Twitter, rolled their eyes at Fey’s comments by pointing out that she’s done a string of American Express commercials, many X users appreciated her take and seemed to agree that celebrities shouldn’t be hawking their own products, which they might not have any expertise in creating in the first place.
“She’s talking about our favorite singers capitalizing off us loving them as singers and using that as a means to get *even more* rich by selling us hair care products, liquor, makeup, etc.,” one user said.
“Like wym you already have hundreds of millions of dollars and now you want me to purchase your tequila with my money too,” another said.
“I agree with her.. a celebrity promoting their skin care product that they literally know NOTHING about is too much.. especially if it causes harm to other people” someone else chimed in.

“She’s right. Why the fuck are you a model with a Mexican tequila brand? Why are you an actress with a skincare line? An influencer with a vitamin line? Why would I participate in your senseless and meaningless cash grab??” an X user echoed.
“no she’s right we need to shame grifters more,” another X user said.
