The Ratliff brothers got quite cheeky with one another on Sunday night’s episode of “The White Lotus.

The first five minutes make that quite evident as audiences find out the smooching siblings took things to another unexpected level during their raunchy rendezvous on new friend Chloe’s (Charlotte Le Bon) yacht. It’s pretty on-brand for the hit HBO series to deliver jaw-dropping moments when you least expect them. However, Season 3, Episode 6, wades further into incest territory with the brothers than we could’ve imagined — warning, spoilers ahead.

If you freaked out over last week’s shocking makeout sesh, then you surely lost your mind when it was revealed that Lochlan (Sam Nivola) got a little handsy with his big bro Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) during their drug and booze-fueled threesome with Chloe. And yes, that means exactly what you think.

The hazy events of that night are slowly pieced together by Saxon and Lochlan’s flashbacks throughout the episode, with fellow guest Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) and Chloe filling in the gaps I’m sure the two would’ve liked to forget.

The topic comes up poolside after Chloe reveals her boyfriend, Gary (Jon Gries) — aka Greg, who schemed to kill Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya last season for her fortune — seemed slightly turned on after she admitted to sleeping with one of the brothers, to which Chelsea suggests that may mean Gary wants a threesome. Saxon interjects to share that he’s had a threesome before, just not with another guy. That’s when Chloe looks him square in the face with a slight smirk and asks, “What about last night?”

Saxon brushes off the question to say whatever he, Lochlan and Chloe did that night wasn’t a threesome, especially since “that’s my little brother.” Still, the two locked lips (more than once!), Chelsea reminds him. Saxon once again plays it off as a “joke” after saying she and Chloe “forced” them to. That’s when Chloe drops the bomb.

“I didn’t force him to jerk you off,” she retorts smugly.

Denial slowly wears off once Saxon realizes she’s telling the truth — hence why the brothers both woke up naked that morning after blacking out.

“The White Lotus” has been toeing the line with the Ratliff brothers all season, dropping subtle hints that this mind-boggling instance was inevitable. We saw it when Lochlan peeked at Saxon’s naked body while his brother jerked off in the bathroom in Episode 1 and with Saxon’s odd sex conversations with his little brother. But going full-on incest like this is something viewers (including me) weren’t prepared for.

Still, we should’ve seen this strange climax coming after executive producer David Bernad told the New York Post that there’s a “larger thematic idea [creator Mike White] is trying to get across” with this conflicting storyline between the brothers.

“Mike is brilliant, and I think those big story turns are not just for shock,” he shared following Episode 5’s kissing scene. “There’s a specific reason in terms of the narrative storytelling.”

In speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Schwarzenegger said of the kiss: “There’s always more than what meets the eye of the shock value on screen.”

Where that shock value will lead us with the Ratliff brothers, especially now that they’ve crossed a forbidden line, will hopefully be revealed in next week’s episode. Maybe then viewers can start making sense of what big idea White is getting at as shy guy Lochlan comes into his own and macho Saxon grapples with his masculinity and true internal feelings.
