Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann and MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell agreed on Wednesday with the eye-opening nature of the newly-unsealed court filing containing further evidence of Donald Trump’s alleged ― and failed ― bid to overturn the 2020 election result.
“It’s really hard to do highlights because this is bombshell after bombshell after bombshell,” Weissmann said of the 165-page brief prepared by special counsel Jack Smith’s office.
O’Donnell concurred, saying: “I actually, literally, highlighted every single page.”
Weissman likened it to the Watergate scandal that brought down former President Richard Nixon.
But he added, “I mean, this is Watergate over and over again, the idea that this is a cancer on the presidency.”
Weissmann also expressed surprise at the amount of “direct evidence where it’s conversations with Donald Trump over and over again” where “just so many people telling him there was no fraud that made any difference here.”
