Steve Doocy announced on the air Thursday he is leaving his “Fox & Friends” studio hosting gig ― effective immediately. (Watch the video below.)
“After decades of getting up at 3:30 and driving into NYC in the dark, today is the last day I will host this show from the couch,” Doocy said, referring to the morning show’s signature furniture piece. “It’s time for a change,” he added.
Doocy said he will work on the Fox News show remotely three days a week, basing himself in Florida. He said he will still be considered a host.
Friday will mark a new chapter in which he can have breakfast with his children and grandchildren, he explained.
After a vacation, he said, “I will continue to join the couch crew for commentary. You will still hear my voice and my opinions loud and clear.”
Doocy hinted he’ll be doing some man-in-the-diner remote segments that are popular.
His partial exit from the “F&F” universe follows Pete Hegseth’s complete departure to become President Donald Trump’s secretary of defense.
Doocy cited an AI factoid that he’d awakened to a 3:30 a.m. alarm 6,828 times to do the show.
“It is a great job, but the hours suck,” he said.
Doocy joined “Fox & Friends” in 1998, and the show has mostly dominated the ratings among cable morning news shows.
His son, Peter, is a White House correspondent for the right-wing channel.
The longtime host got a little teary with co-hosts Ainsley Earhardt, Lawrence Jones and Brian Kilmeade, but noted it wasn’t goodbye.
