Steve Bannon caused a furor on Thursday after he was seen giving a Nazi salute at Day 2 of the Conservative Political Action Conference.
Donald Trump’s former adviser made the gesture during a speech where he called for his fearless leader to run for an unconstitutional third term, telling the crowd, “We want Trump in ’28.”
Near the end of his speech, Bannon told the crowd that “the only way we lose is if we quit” and vowed not to surrender. He then yelled “fight, fight, fight” before raising his right arm with his palm down.
Yes, there’s video.
Bannon’s “salute” comes weeks after his “frenemy” and fellow Trump toadie Elon Musk did a similar display of fealty at an inaugural celebration last month.
Although some people claimed Musk’s salute wasn’t intended to evoke the Nazis, Bannon didn’t get the benefit of doubt.
In fact, Jordan Bardella, president of France’s National Rally (RN) party, was scheduled to speak at CPAC on Friday, but canceled because “one of the speakers out of provocation allowed himself a gesture alluding to Nazi ideology.” according to France24.
Kanye West also seemed disappointed at Bannon’s gesture ― or at least the fact he seemed to get away with it ― and posted, “Whits guys have all the fun.”
White supremacist Nick Fuentes also seemed taken aback by Bannon’s salute, and admitted, “It’s getting a little uncomfortable even for a guy like me! I feel like that guy in that picture who wouldn’t heil Hitler.”
Naturally, the video of the salute was a big topic on social media, with many people disturbed at how Republicans and conservatives seem quite OK with normalizing Nazism.
