Vice President JD Vance fumbled a football trophy on Monday and couldn’t catch a break on social media, either.
The Ohio State University Buckeyes won the College Football Playoff National Championship in January. On Monday, team members visited the White House to meet President Donald Trump and Vance, an alum of the school.
At one point, Vance attempted to hold up the trophy — only to have it come apart.
Luckily, the trophy has two large pieces and wasn’t permanently broken.
Still, the fact that “We Are The Champions” was playing in the background as Vance fumbled the trophy added to the hilarity, leading CNN’s Boris Sanchez to predict, “I’m sure this will wind up getting memed online.”
After the incident, Vance joked on X that he fumbled the trophy on purpose:
“I didn’t want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it,” he wrote.
Regardless, people still enjoyed mocking the vice president’s butterfingers.
