Rachel Zegler, star of Disney’s live-action “Snow White,” reportedly shocked studio executives after she followed up a social media post about the film with the statement: “and always remember, free palestine.”
The post led “Snow White” producer Marc Platt to fly to New York to “speak directly” to the actor, Variety’s Tatiana Siegel shared in her report on the chaotic lead-up to the film’s release this past weekend.
Zegler’s pro-Palestinian post to X, formerly Twitter, has more than twice the amount of likes compared to her initial post thanking fans for viewing the “Snow White” trailer over 120 million times in 24 hours after it dropped in August.
At least one executive brought their concerns to Zegler’s representatives, but the “Snow White” star kept the post up, per Variety.
“She didn’t understand the repercussions of her actions as far as what that meant for the film, for Gal, for anyone,” a source told the outlet.
The magazine noted that Platt would later discuss Zegler’s posts with her again after she took to Instagram to declare “Fuck Donald Trump,” adding “May Trump supporters ... never know peace” after the president’s election win.
Zegler later apologized for the post after backlash and, after discussion between the producer and actor, Disney went on to hire a “social media guru” to keep an eye on her posts prior to the film’s release.
“Snow White” — which had a reported $269 million budget, making it one of the most expensive films ever made — saw initial backlash for casting a non-white actor to star in the remake of 1937 animated classic.
More controversies followed, including debate over the new movie’s treatment of the Seven Dwarfs, Zegler’s take on the “weird” aspects of the original compared to director Marc Webb’s reimagined version, as well as Zegler and her co-star Gal Gadot’s opposing views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Variety reported that Disney hired security for Gadot, an Israeli actor who served in the Israel Defense Forces for two years, amid a rise in death threats toward her.

Gadot chose to keep her takes on “geopolitics limited” to her support of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, assuring that this “did not mix” with the promotion of the film.
Disney saw a disappointing box office return for “Snow White” after it grossed roughly $87 million worldwide (about $43 million domestically) in its opening weekend.
