LOADINGERROR LOADING

President Joe Biden announced Sunday he would drop out of the 2024 presidential election after weeks of questions within the Democratic Party over whether he could defeat former President Donald Trump in November’s general election.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” he said in a letter. “And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Biden’s decision, which comes weeks ahead of the Democratic National Convention, leaves the Democratic nomination open. He immediately endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the nomination.

Small Donors Pour In More Than $46 Million In ‘Biggest Fundraising Day’ Of 2024 Cycle

ActBlue, the major fundraising platform for Democratic campaigns, said it’s seen the single-biggest fundraising day of the 2024 election cycle, with small donors pouring in $46.7 million as of 9 p.m. eastern.

“Small-dollar donors are fired up and ready to take on this election,” the group wrote on X.

Report: All 50 State Democratic Chairs Throw Weight Behind Kamala Harris

Reuters reports all 50 Democratic Party state chairs voiced their approval of Harris to be the new nominee on a call Sunday.

The outlet, citing sources familiar with the conversation, described “full support” for the vice president.

8 Of The 9 Squad Members Have Endorsed Kamala Harris

Almost all of the congressional “Squad” have now endorsed Harris’ bid for the Democratic nomination, per statements posted on social media or given to media outlets.

The progressive bloc of lawmakers includes Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), the only Palestinian-American member of Congress, has yet to put out a statement.

Coalition Of Black Attorneys General In U.S. Endorse Harris

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced that she and every Black attorney general in the U.S. were endorsing Harris as a unified coalition.

"Harris has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to protecting and expanding the rights of all Americans," James said in a statement from a group she described as "the nation's Black attorneys general."

The following attorneys general were named in the statement:
  • Illinois AG Kwame Raoul
  • Maryland AG Anthony Brown
  • Massachusetts AG Andrea Campbell
  • Minnesota AG Keith Ellison
  • Nevada AG Aaron Ford

With Biden Out, Democrats Lose Advantage Of Incumbency

The big blue airplane, the Marine Corps band, having the White House switchboard place your calls ― there are good reasons why most incumbents who have run for reelection in modern times have won.

Yet the grand imagery of the presidency combined with the reluctance of many voters to switch horses midstream was not enough to buoy President Joe Biden, so with barely over three months to go, Democrats will head into the November election having ceded the power of incumbency.

“He had no choice. With 86% of American voters thinking the incumbent is too old to serve effectively in another term, incumbency is not an advantage,” said Republican pollster Whit Ayres.

AOC Backs Harris After Previously Raising Alarm About A Biden Dropout

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) put her support behind Harris on Sunday in a statement posted to X.

"Kamala Harris will be the next President of the United States. I pledge my full support to ensure her victory in November," she said. "Now more than ever, it is crucial that our party and country swiftly unite to defeat Donald Trump and the threat to American democracy. Let’s get to work."

Ocasio-Cortez had previously backed Biden, arguing he had told her he was not leaving the race and he had her support. Just two days ago, she warned Democrats against urging Biden to drop his reelection bid.

“If you think that there is consensus among the people who want Joe Biden to leave that they will support Vice President Harris, you would be mistaken,” she said, arguing that urging Biden to leave without a plan in place would lead to "enormous peril."

Sen. Mitt Romney Says Joe Biden Made 'Right' Move To Step Aside

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) praised Biden's decision not to seek reelection in a conciliatory statement on Sunday, standing in sharp contrast to other Republicans who called on the president to resign immediately.

“I’m a classic Republican and he’s a classic Democrat; obviously, President Biden and I usually didn’t see eye-to-eye," Romney said. "I opposed many of his initiatives. But we did find common ground on infrastructure, Ukraine, the Electoral Count Act, adding religious liberty protections to the marriage bill, gun safety measures, and chip manufacturing."

“Others will judge his presidency. However, having worked with him these past few years, I respect President Biden. His decision to withdraw from the race was right and is in the best interest of the country," the Utah senator added.

Romney, who is retiring this year, did not vote for Trump in 2020 and has ruled out voting for him in 2024, citing his lack of judgment and character. He previously said he would write in the name of his wife Ann Romney for president.

Biden Has No Events Planned Monday

Biden has no public events planned for Monday, according to a schedule sent out by the White House. The guidance said additional details about his schedule the rest of the week were "forthcoming."

In his letter released earlier today, Biden said he would speak to the nation later this week about his decision to drop his reelection bid.

Biden is still being treated for COVID-19, according to a letter from his doctor sent Sunday.

Pete Buttigieg Endorses Kamala Harris

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, one of several Democrats the party’s floated as a presidential contender, threw his support behind Harris.

“Kamala Harris is now the right person to take up the torch, defeat Donald Trump, and succeed Joe Biden as President,” he said in a statement. “I have seen her extraordinary leadership firsthand, working closely with her during the 2020 campaign and then in the historically effective Biden-Harris administration. I will do all that I can do help her win this election to lead America forward as our next President.”

Gavin Newsom Joins Democratic Ranks Endorsing Harris

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has long been speculated to be a potential Democratic presidential contender, endorsed Harris on Sunday evening.

"Tough. Fearless. Tenacious," Newsom posted on X. "With our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against Donald Trump's dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than America’s Vice President, [Kamala Harris]."

Newsom was one of the more prominent Democrats to vocally stand by Biden in the weeks after the president's disastrous debate performance.

Another Potential VP Pick Backs Harris

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, another swing state Democrat who is reportedly being considered as a running mate for Harris, threw his support behind the vice president Sunday evening.

"Kamala Harris should be the next President," Cooper posted on X. "I’ve known [Harris] going back to our days as AGs, and she has what it takes to defeat Donald Trump and lead our country thoughtfully and with integrity. I look forward to campaigning for her as we work to win NC up and down the ticket."

Small Donors Raise $27.5 Million For Dems In Hours Since Biden Endorsed Harris

ActBlue, a major fundraising platform for Democratic campaigns, said small-dollar donations (usually defined as under $200) surged in the hours since Biden endorsed Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"Small-dollar donors raise over $27.5 million on ActBlue in the first 5 hours of Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign," ActBlue posted on X. "Grassroots supporters are energized and excited to support her as the Democratic nominee."

Independent Sen. Joe Manchin Reportedly Considering Challenging Harris

CNN's Jake Tapper and The Bulwark's Sam Stein reported Sunday that West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, who left the Democratic Party in May and registered as an independent, is considering re-registering as a Democrat to challenge Harris for the nomination.

Manchin had urged Biden to leave the race on Sunday's political talk shows, just hours before Biden announced his decision.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Respects Biden’s ‘Tough But Strong’ Move

Ukrainian President Volodymyrr Zelenskyy praised Biden Sunday for his “bold” efforts in the White House to support "Ukraine's fight for freedom."

“Many strong decisions have been made in recent years and they will be remembered as bold steps taken by President Biden in response to challenging times,” Zelenskyy posted on X in response to Biden’s dropping out of the U.S. election. “And we respect today’s tough but strong decision.”

Zelenskyy has been Ukraine’s president for the entirety of Biden’s presidential tenure. Biden has continued to support Ukraine in the years since Russia invaded the neighboring country, despite growing tensions in Congress over whether to continue budgeting large sums of money and weapons to support Ukraine.

"We will always be thankful for President Biden's leadership," the Ukrainian president said. "He supported our country during the most dramatic moment in history, assisted us in preventing [Russian President Vladimir] Putin from occupying our country, and has continued to support us throughout this terrible war."

Zelenskyy also said he hoped that the U.S. will continue to support Ukraine in the war, though such a move is unlikely if Trump takes office.

Harris recently pledged America's full support in backing Ukraine.

“The current situation in Ukraine and all of Europe is no less challenging, and we sincerely hope that America’s continued strong leadership will prevent Russian evil from succeeding or making its aggression pay off,” Zelenskyy said.

Biden last met with Zelenskyy two weeks ago during the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., where the president went viral for accidentally calling the Ukrainian president, “President Putin.”

Gen Z Congressman Thinks Harris Will Do Well With Younger Voters

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.), who at age 27 is the first Gen Z-age congressman, thinks having Harris at the top of the Democratic presidential ticket will energize young voters.

“The record’s important, what she believes is important but the other thing is that she actually goes out and meets with young voters,” Frost said in a video conference call Sunday, shortly after he announced his endorsement of her for president.

He cited her work overseeing the new White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention as an example of Harris working on issues important to younger voters.

He also did not think the Biden administration’s record on Israel’s war in Gaza, or Harris’ past as a local district attorney and state attorney general, would pose problems for her.

He said several groups focused on Gaza wanted Biden to step aside, and one, Gen-Z For Change, has already endorsed Harris.

“The Vice President was one of the people in the administration pushing for a more sympathetic policy towards Palestinians and what’s going on there. She was also the first person in the administration to call for a ceasefire,” he said.

Frost said some young voters may have issues with her past as a prosecutor but others think she can take the fight to Trump. “She used to convict rapists. Now she’s going to be running against one, which will be true when she becomes the official Democratic nominee,” he said.

Frost said he expected Trump to make attacks against Harris that would be seen as in poor taste or turn off voters. He cited Trump recently referring to her as “Laughing Kamala.”

“Like it’s bad to laugh,” he said.

Josh Shapiro, Potential VP Pick, Endorses Kamala Harris

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who’s being floated as a potential running mate for Harris, endorsed the vice president as the party’s new nominee.

“Kamala Harris is a patriot worthy of our support and she will continue the work of generations of Americans who came before us to perfect our union, protect our democracy, and advance real freedom,” he said in a statement. “She has served the country honorably as Vice President and he is ready to be President.”

Joe Biden Is No Longer Running For President. Here Are The Key Things To Know.

  • Biden has dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris. Biden said he was doing so “in the best interest of my party and the country,” although he stressed that he would continue to serve as president until the winner of the November election takes office.
  • Harris has vowed to “earn and win” the nomination at the DNC in Chicago next month. The vice president thanked Biden for his patriotism in her own statement and said she would continue to travel around the country to appeal to voters in the coming weeks.
  • Many Democrats around the country are rallying around her, while others have been more reserved. Harris has secured the quick endorsements of lawmakers in Congress and governors around the nation, while others, notably former President Barack Obama, have taken a more neutral stance as the nomination process plays out.
  • No major challengers have so far voiced their own plans at the DNC. But independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he would remain in the race.
  • Speculation is rampant about who Harris could tap as a running mate if she secures the nomination. Those choices include Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, among others.
  • Trump and the GOP are already on the attack. Republican attack ads aired almost immediately after Biden’s announcement, seeking to tie her candidacy to the president’s record on immigration and lambasting her views as too liberal.

Big PACs For Black, Latino, AAPI Voters Endorse Kamala Harris

Large political action committees representing Black, Latino and Asian-American communities have endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee.

“Vice President Kamala Harris is the Democratic Party’s best choice to win this November. We will fight with all of our might to make her the first South Asian and Black woman ever to serve as President of the United States,” AAPI Victory Fund president and CEO Shekar Narasimhan said.

“Vice President Harris supports issues that strengthen the Latino community and she has our full support as a champion and ally to Latinos,” Latino Victory Fund president and CEO Sindy Benavides said, adding: “Vice President Harris listens to the Latino community, she cares about us and will continue to have our backs.”

Harris is a “brilliant lawyer, a successful district attorney, a leading voice as a U.S. senator, and now vice president,” Stefanie Brown James and Quentin James, co-founders of the Collective PAC, said of Harris.

“In the face of radical fascism, individual freedoms are no longer guaranteed for all Americans, including Black people, who know all too well the perils of institutional racism and democratic setbacks,” they continued.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Chair Of Congressional Progressive Caucus, Exuberant In Support After Speaking To Harris

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wa.), who chairs the large Congressional Progressive Caucus, said she was exuberant in her support after speaking with the vice president on Sunday.

“Vice President Kamala Harris just called me and I told her I am 1000% in for her to be our President!” Jayapal wrote on X. “She has the smarts, the experience, the accomplishments and the agenda to lead us to victory in November. Let’s go!”

Donald Trump Complains He Has To ‘Start All Over Again’ After Joe Biden Drops Out

Trump lamented all the “time and money” he has spent campaigning against Biden on Sunday and that he now had to “start all over again.”

“Shouldn’t the Republican Party be reimbursed for fraud in that everybody around Joe, including his doctors and the Fake News Media, knew he was not capable of running for, or being, President?” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Just askin’.”

RFK Jr. Says He Won't Follow Biden And Drop Out

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he was staying in the 2024 presidential race as an independent, declining to campaign for president as a Democrat now that Biden is no longer seeking reelection.

"I am very content running where I am," Kennedy Jr. said at a press conference on Sunday. "I believe it's a two-person race. I believe I am in the best position to win."

Kennedy claimed Harris is a "war hawk" on Ukraine and China. He also slammed her criminal justice record during her tenure as attorney general of California, which drew criticism from some progressives during her 2020 bid for president.

"In terms of the traditional Democratic principles, I don't think she has a credible record," he said.

Democrats fear RFK Jr. could help Trump win another term in office by running as an independent and siphoning votes from Democrats. The two men recently spoke via phone and a leaked recording showed Trump praising false theories about the safety of vaccines, a pet issue for Kennedy.

Donald Trump Lays Groundwork To Dodge Or Change Rules Of The Next Debate

Trump is already moving to shift his plans for the second presidential debate, set to be held on Sept. 10 and hosted by ABC. His campaign agreed to two debates in May, but attacked those plans on social media after Biden dropped out.

“Now that Joe has, not surprisingly, has quit the race, I think the Debate, with whomever the Radical Left Democrats choose, should be held on FoxNews, rather than very biased ABC,” he wrote on Truth Social.

He added that ABC News was “fake” and the “home of George Slopadopolus,” referring to anchor George Stephanopoulos.

Hunter Biden’s Heartfelt Message To His Father

Biden’s son Hunter shared a touching tribute to his father in the wake of him leaving the race.

“I’m so lucky every night I get to tell him I love him, and to thank him. I ask all Americans to join me tonight in doing the same. Thank you, Mr. President. I love you, Dad,” he wrote.

Hunter Biden – who, with his late brother Beau Biden, survived a car crash that killed their mother and sister in 1972 – also spoke of the great personal losses his father has endured and how they influenced him as a leader.

“For my entire life, I’ve looked at my dad in awe. How could he suffer so much heartache and yet give so much of whatever remained of his heart to others? Not only in the policies he passed, but in the individual lives he’s touched,” he wrote. “Over a life time I have witnessed him absorb the pain of countless everyday Americans who he’s given his personal phone number to, because he wanted them to call him when they were hurting. When their last hopes were slipping through their hands.”

“That unconditional love has been his North Star as a President, and as a parent,” he continued.

Elizabeth Warren Has 1 Question For Kamala Harris Skeptics

Sen. Elizabeth Warren told Politico that she was on a flight with no internet at the time Biden announced he was dropping out, and that she only found out after landing.

The Massachusetts Democrat, who has helped campaign for Biden, said she is “prepared to help the VP do whatever is necessary to get her elected” and believes Harris will “make a terrific president.”

Warren ran against both Biden and Harris in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary. According to Politico, the senator has one question for Democrats skeptical of Harris’ ability to win the election in November:

“Who better to take on a convicted felon than a former prosecutor?”

A Kamala Harris Prophecy From HuffPost In 2016

Mollie Reilly, HuffPost’s managing editor of breaking news, wrote this staff-favorite story shortly after Trump won the presidential election against Hillary Clinton in 2016. This look at Harris as a rising star in the Democratic party was a smart, forward-looking take during a time of great uncertainty as Americans grappled with a reality TV star entering the White House. Give it a read again now that Biden has cleared the way for her to seek the nomination in his place.

Biden-Harris Campaign Officially Files Paperwork To Rename Itself 'Harris For President'

The Biden-Harris campaign has officially filed paperwork to change its name to "Harris for President" after Joe Biden's decision to drop his reelection bid.

Click here for a copy of the campaign's paperwork submitted to the Federal Election Commission requesting the name change.

Rep. Adam Schiff Endorses Kamala Harris

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) gave an enthusiastic endorsement for Harris to become the Democratic nominee. Schiff was one of the most prominent House Democrats to call on Biden to leave the race, helping revive the effort after the assassination attempt against Trump.

“Now it’s time for all of us to unite behind Vice President Harris, he said, noting she has “the judgment, experience, leadership, and tenacity to take on and defeat Donald Trump.”

“There is not better matchup than this superb former prosecutor against this convicted criminal, and she’ll prosecute the case against Trump every single day,” said Schiff, who’s likely to win his Senate race this fall.

He also applauded Biden on a successful presidency, saying he’s “accomplished more in one term than most presidents do in two and he will go down in history as one of the greatest presidents of our time.”

Democrats Race To Back Kamala Harris

Democratic lawmakers on Sunday wasted no time in endorsing Harris for president after Biden announced he is stepping aside as the party’s 2024 nominee ― and backing his running mate to take the top spot.

J.D. Vance Says Biden Was ‘The Worst President’ in His Lifetime

Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, wrote on social media that Biden was “the worst president” of his lifetime and that he and Trump are ready to “save America.”

"Joe Biden has been the worst President in my lifetime and Kamala Harris has been right there with him every step of the way. Over the last four years she co-signed Biden's open border and green scam policies that drove up the cost of housing and groceries. She owns all of these failures, and she lied for nearly four years about Biden's mental capacity-- saddling the nation with a president who can't do the job," Vance wrote on X.

“President Trump and I are ready to save America, whoever's at the top of the Democrat ticket. Bring it on.”

Lisa Murkowski: Biden’s Decision 'In The Best Interest Of The Country'

Alaska GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski, one of Congress’ most prominent moderates, struck a decidedly different tone than most of her Republican colleagues with her statement on Biden’s announcement.

“I respect President Biden’s decision to act in the best interest of the country by stepping aside in the 2024 presidential election,” she wrote on X.

Murkowksi, a supporter of abortion rights who voted to convict Trump in his impeachment trial, said in March she “absolutely” would not vote for Trump in November and has not ruled out leaving the GOP.

Harris Endorsements From Dem Governors Start Tricking In

Some governors are starting to join the wave of Democrats publicly endorsing Harris for president.

Maine Governor Janet Mills said she would do everything she could to elect Harris.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said he believed Harris will be the front runner during the Democratic National Convention in August.

7 Possible Running Mates For A Potential Kamala Harris Presidential Campaign

Biden’s decision to drop his re-election bid and endorse Harris means Democrats have to choose a running mate for Harris, assuming she wins the Democratic nomination for president.

Here are six of the most likely candidates ― at least according to political analysts ― plus one wild card:

Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman Urges Donald Trump To Drop Out Like Joe Biden

In his statement supporting Biden’s decision and endorsing Harris, Rep. Dan Goldman called on Trump to follow suit and also step down as his party’s nominee.

“The American people have made it clear that they want a new generation of leaders to run for President,” the New York Democrat said in a statement. “President Biden has unselfishly heeded that call in order to preserve and protect our democracy, while … Trump, a 78-year-old suffering from clear mental deterioration, continues to put his personal interests over those of the nation’s in his effort to avoid jail and tear down our democracy in the process.”

“I urge Donald Trump to follow President Biden’s lead and put the country first by passing his party’s baton to a younger and healthier candidate who is not a convicted felon," he wrote.

Before entering the House, Goldman rose to fame for his role as an attorney questioning congressional witnesses in the impeachment hearing over Trump’s threatening call to Ukraine while he was president.

Jim Clyburn, Key Biden Ally In The House, Backs Kamala Harris

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), a key Biden ally who urged Democrats to stick by the president the last few weeks, is also throwing his support behind Harris.

"One of President Biden's first decisions as the nominee was to select a running mate that he believed possessed the values and vision necessary to continue this country's pursuit toward 'a more perfect Union,'" Clyburn wrote in a statement. "I echo the good judgment he demonstrated in selecting Vice President Harris to lead this nation alongside him, and I am proud to follow his lead in support of her candidacy to succeed him as the Democratic Party's 2024 nominee for President."

Sen. Bernie Sanders Praises Joe Biden For Serving Country ‘With Honor And Dignity’

Sanders stood behind Biden in a social media post, saying the president has “served our country with honor and dignity.”

“As the first president to ever walk on a picket line with striking workers, he has been the most pro-working class president in modern American history,” said the Vermont independent, who is known for representing the working class and fighting wealth inequality in the Senate.

Sanders himself faced age-related criticism when running for president in both 2016 and 2020.

Like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Sanders was one of many high-profile progressives who continued to strongly support Biden at the top of the ticket while calls grew for the president to drop out.

'She's Crazy': Republican Attacks Shift From Joe Biden To Kamala Harris

The Democratic party baton has not officially passed from Biden to Harris, but already, the vice president is facing Republican attacks befitting a presidential front-runner.

Only moments after Biden announced he would not be seeking reelection on Sunday, upending the 2024 race, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and his allies unleashed an offensive against Harris, seeking to tie her to Biden’s record on immigration and criticizing her views as too liberal.

Kamala Harris Accepts Biden’s Endorsement: 'My Intention Is To Earn And Win This Nomination'

Harris thanked Biden for his leadership and vowed to defeat Trump and Project 2025’s extremist agenda in her first statement since the president dropped out from the race.

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” Harris said in a statement, adding, “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”

Read Harris' full statement below:

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. His remarkable legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many Presidents who have served two terms in office.

“It is a profound honor to serve as his Vice President, and I am deeply grateful to the President, Dr. Biden, and the entire Biden family. I first came to know President Biden through his son Beau. We were friends from our days working together as Attorneys General of our home states. As we worked together, Beau would tell me stories about his Dad. The kind of father—and the kind of man—he was. And the qualities Beau revered in his father are the same qualities, the same values, I have seen every single day in Joe’s leadership as President: His honesty and integrity. His big heart and commitment to his faith and his family. And his love of our country and the American people.

“With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else.

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.

“We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”

Rep Lloyd Doggett Calls For Open Process To Pick Biden's Replacement

The first elected Democrat to call on Biden to step aside this month hailed his decision but also suggested the party should not rush to nominate Harris.

“Once again President Biden comes through for America, putting country over ego in a way that Donald Trump never could," Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) said in a statement. "Now we must move forward to offer a nominee, who can win over disaffected voters and energize Democrats. I continue to urge a fair, open, and democratic process to select the nominee best able to convince battleground voters to reject Trump’s dark, retribution-fueled plans."

Doggett acknowledged Harris as the "leading candidate" but said "we should be open to all talented individuals who wish to be considered."

Trump Campaign Hits At Kamala Harris

The Trump campaign bashed Harris in a new statement as a wave of leading Democrats threw their support behind her.

“Kamala Harris is just as much of joke as Biden is. Harris will be even WORSE for the people of our Nation than Joe Biden,” Trump campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said in a statement.

“Harris has been the Enabler in Chief for Crooked Joe this entire time," they continued. "They own each other’s records, and there is no distance between the two. Harris must defend the failed Biden Administration AND her liberal, weak-on-crime record in CA."

"Joe Biden cannot take himself out of a campaign for President because he is too mentally incompetent and still remain in the White House," reads the statement. "Biden is a national security threat in great cognitive decline and a clear and present danger to every man, woman, and child in our country. The question then to Kamala Harris is simple: knowing that Joe Biden withdrew from the campaign because of his rapidly deteriorating condition, does Harris believe the people of America are safe and secure with Joe Biden in the White House for six more months?"

Mike Johnson Claims It Would Be 'Unlawful' For Democrats To Replace Biden

House Speaker Mike Johnson said Sunday that replacing President Joe Biden as the presumptive Democratic nominee would be “unlawful,” just hours before the president announced that he is officially stepping aside.

But is Johnson right that there would be legal issues with a different candidate? Earlier this month, election law expert and UCLA professor Rick Hasen said there is no reason Democrats should be unable to legally put forward a different person.

“I don’t put any credence to it. Joe Biden is not the party’s nominee now, and states generally point to the major party’s nominee as the one whose name is on the ballot,” Hasen wrote on July 3 on his website, Election Law Blog.

Pro-Palestinian ‘Uncommitted’ Movement Says Biden’s Israel Support Hurt His Chances

The Uncommitted National Movement, which played a significant part in Biden’s primary election results in Michigan, released a statement saying that the president hurt his own chances at being the nominee due to his administration’s policy on Gaza.

“For months, we’ve warned that Biden’s support for Israel’s assault on Gaza would hurt his electability. Now, it’s crucial for Vice President Harris to take a clear stance against weapons for Israel’s war and occupation against Palestinians,” Uncommitted leader Layla Elabed wrote.

Elabed said that the U.S. government’s decision to continue sending weapons to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his military “makes a mockery of Democrats’ claims to fight against MAGA authoritarianism.”

“It’s time to align our actions with our values,” she continued. “Vice President Harris can start the process to earn back trust by turning the page from Biden’s horrific policies on Gaza.”

The movement was created by mostly pro-Palestinian Democrats who felt ignored and disillusioned by Biden, leading 100,000 Michigan voters to cast their primary ballot for “uncommitted” instead of for the president.

Barack Obama Applauds Joe Biden's Decision, Stops Short Of Endorsing Kamala Harris

Former President Barack Obama applauded Biden's decision to leave the race.

"Joe Biden has been one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me" said Obama, who chose Biden as his running mate in 2008. "Today, we’ve also been reminded — again — that he’s a patriot of the highest order."

“For him to look at the political landscape and decide that he should pass the torch to a new nominee is surely one of the toughest in his life,” Obama continued. “But I know he wouldn’t make this decision unless he believed it was right for America. It’s a testament to Joe Biden’s love of country — and a historic example of a genuine public servant once again putting the interests of the American people ahead of his own that future generations of leaders will do well to follow.”

His statement didn’t include an endorsement for Harris, whom Biden has backed as his replacement.

“We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead,” Obama continued. “But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.”

Donald Trump’s Social Media Screed Continues

Trump returned to Truth Social with more harsh words about Biden.

“He was annihilated in an Earth Shattering Debate, and now the Corrupt and Radical Democrats are throwing him overboard,” he wrote in another lengthy post.

He still hasn’t posted about Harris, whom Biden has endorsed to replace him at the top of the ticket.

Virginia Sens. Tim Kaine, Mark Warner Endorses Harris

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), who was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2016, said he was looking forward to working with Harris now that Biden has dropped out of the race.

Kaine is running for reelection this November.

“As I have been saying for weeks, President [Joe Biden] is a patriotic American who has always put the needs of our country ahead of himself,” he said in a statement, highlighting Biden’s career.

“I am laser-focused on building on the historic accomplishments of the Biden-Harris administration, by continuing to lower costs for Virginians, protecting our democracy at home and abroad, and safeguarding Americans’ reproductive freedoms,” he continued.

How History Might Remember Joe Biden's Presidency

Higher prices at the grocery store, but also more dollars in paychecks.

A record low in the number of Americans without health insurance, plus a historic — if fleeting — reduction in child poverty.

Stronger international alliances, amid a bloody invasion of Ukraine and civilian catastrophe in the Middle East.

These are among the major developments tied to policy initiatives of Biden’s presidency — which, because of his decision not to seek reelection, will end one way or another by Jan. 20, 2025. By any reasonable standard, they add up to a tenure of enormous consequence.
