When it comes to age-repairing skin and undoing the damage of simply being alive, a lot of the focus is what you can put on your face. Under-eye serums, collagen-infused face masks, firming creams… the list goes on. But according to dermatologists, it’s important to think about what you can remove from your skin too, specifically old skin cells and excess oil — and using this highly rated facial scrubber may just be a great way to do it.

“Old skin cells pile up and excess oil blocks our pores, leaving skin looking dull. Exfoliation becomes important as it removes this build-up, allowing for fresh new healthy skin cells to surface,” dermatologist Dr. Azadeh Shirazi previously told HuffPost. This $16 facial scrubber is a form of physical exfoliation and Shirazi says its silicon bristles are more resistant to bacterial buildup (and therefore more hygienic) than loofahs or sponges.

Its technology gently gets rid of pore-clogging dirt and debris as well as old skin cells using the silicon bristles. Dermatologists we’ve spoken with in the past have advised using the spatula in conjunction with one of the textured silicone covers for maximum safety, and it’s important that skin is wet when using the tool. (The brand also offers guidance to use it no more than three times per week and to move it evenly around your face. Those with sensitive skin should “reduce usage.”)

When used correctly, the results seem to inspire a lot of ardor from those who have enjoyed the benefits of the scrubbing device.

I love it more than any other skincare tool that I own,” wrote BuzzFeed writer Negesti Kaudo, who purchased it at the recommendation of her aesthetician. “I don’t have much acne, but I do have oily combination skin and visibly clogged pores, so this has been a lifesaver when I don’t have time to visit an aesthetician.”

“OMG! OMG! OMG! THE BEST facial tool EVER !!!! I don’t have enough words for how great this works. I used the blackhead cleaning mode on my daughter, the three other ones daily cleaning and the massage and serum absorbing modes on myself. My skin after one week (religious, everyday usage) looks and feels sooooo much better. I’m 55, so needless to say no ‘spring chicken’ and need all the help possible. I have always been good with skin regimen and have been using homemade serums for years. But this works like an iron! Deep wrinkles are much less visible, shallow wrinkles are almost completely gone! (Those are barely visible only with a smile.) My skin has a beautiful healthy glow. My daughter walked into my bedroom yesterday evening and asked me: ‘Mommy, why are you in bed with makeup on?’ I did not have makeup. Improvement of skin is just so drastic. When I told her that she stole my GUGUG and started massaging her 21-year-‘old’ wrinkles. LOL Really, really great tool. I did not get any compensation for this feedback. I just thought some of us over 50 gals should spread the word. :) Five stars all the way around. $25!— I spent more than a week on various products. Buy it if you can—you will love it!” — Filuek

“I love the skin spatula scrubber! It gives a whole new meaning to ‘cleaning’ my face. It removes dead skin, dirt and junk out of clogged pores. It has a lifting feature that’s nice for eyebrows but I’m not very skilled at that yet. You can put on a sheet mask and use the + ion function to penetrate the ingredients which is amazing. It’s like a professional facial. I’ve used it for cleansing twice and to penetrate my skin care products twice per day for the last four days. I used it with a sheet mask once. My forehead is less wrinkled already. I’m excited to see future results. I’m almost 48 years old, so for the price and ease of use this thing is definitely worth the price. Watch a YouTube video to learn how to use this kind of tool properly if you’re not familiar with skin scrubber spatulas. It helped me. I may upgrade to a professional model later. I’m hooked.” — From Oklahoma

“I’m thoroughly impressed with this device. As a newly licensed esthetician this product helps with the extraction process while being an affordable modality to use in the treatment room. Highly recommend. I was so impressed I bought one for myself and used it as part of my skincare routine. You will be surprised what comes up from the skin when in Ion+ mode. It shakes up and loosens what is underneath the skin and hidden in pores so easily. 10/10.” — QNH

This little gadget is the best thing I have ever purchased for my skin— hands down. I wanted to wait about a month before reviewing because I wanted to give it a fair shot as far as results go. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw results on the very first use! I had enlarged pores and I do struggle with having an oily skin type. I was noticing that I was getting little whiteheads on my nose and very fine lines were beginning to creep in. I could not believe the junk I was able to get out of my face with this product. It was disgustingly amazing. My pores are smaller and tighter. My whiteheads: GONE. I have such a nice healthy glow now, and my favorite thing about this tool is the lift feature. I am definitely seeing an improvement with my fine lines and the overall firmness of my skin. I use the ion technology about two to three times a week (positive to clean my pores out and negative to apply my face cream for maximum absorption), and I use the lift feature about four to five times a week. I love it so much I bought one for my mom for her birthday! Best money I’ve ever spent investing in myself.” — K. Chausse
