Hegseth’s Past Makes Him ‘Unacceptable’ To Be DOD Secretary: Groups
More than 65 progressive and civil rights groups said the allegations against Hegseth make him unfit for the post.
“Hegseth’s demonstrated history of misogyny, harassment, and alleged sexual assault make him an unacceptable candidate for Secretary of Defense, and indeed for any leadership position in our federal government,” the groups said in a letter Monday to the respective party leaders in the Senate and on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Groups that signed the letter include the National Women’s Law Center, Human Rights Campaign, the NAACP, the League of Conservation Voters and the National Organization for Women.
Several Democratic senators have expressed skepticism about Hegseth, citing accusations of sexual misconduct and alcohol abuse. Hegseth, a former Fox News host, has denied the allegations and promised he would not drink if he’s named to the defense post.
“If Hegseth is appointed, he will be charged with implementing the Uniform Code of Military Justice and prosecuting others for crimes he himself may have committed including drinking on duty, conduct unbecoming, sexual assault and harassment, and misuse of funds,” the groups said.
