NextImg:Pollster Frank Luntz Blasts CNN's Enthusiastic Data Chief: 'You're Not On Broadway'

Longtime Republican pollster Frank Luntz upbraided CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten on Tuesday, slapping down his fellow number cruncher for being too “Broadway” in these “very serious” times.

Luntz critiqued Enten’s style while appearing on the CNN show hosted by Laura Coates when he was asked to comment on Enten’s dissection of President Donald Trump’s faltering poll numbers since the election.

In his signature enthusiastic style, Enten had argued Trump is now losing support from the coalition that wouldn’t normally vote Republican but were drawn to him last year.

“And that is no bueno no matter how you put it, Laura Coates,” Enten concluded.

But Luntz was unimpressed with the presentation style, despite admitting Enten’s analysis squared with his own.

“Well, I first want to say to Harry, come on, you’re not on Broadway,” Luntz said. “Look, I used to do exactly what you just did, maybe 10 years ago. But this stuff is very serious now, so, ‘Oh, my God!’ [Luntz approximated Enten’s style] is not helpful as a pollster in providing information.”

He added, “It may get people to pay attention for a minute or two, but it doesn’t communicate what needs to be said.”

But in an act of solidarity, Coates was not going to let Luntz’s comments slide.

“Well, first, I love Broadway and I love Harry Enten,” she said, arguing Enten’s approach “helps people to be more included in the conversation.”
