The president of New York University’s College Republicans group has resigned after comments she made about NYU freshman Barron Trump landed her in hot water with conservatives.
Kaya Walker told Vanity Fair in an article published last week that President Donald Trump’s youngest son is “sort of like an oddity on campus.”
“He goes to class, he goes home,” she said.
The magazine also reported that “Walker was mildly bothered by the frenzy around Barron, arguing that he deserved a more normal college experience.”
Those fairly innocuous comments were deemed “inappropriate” by the College Republicans of America.
“We have been made aware of a statement made by the NYU chapter President that does not align with the values and principles upheld by our organization,” the national-level group said in a statement Monday. “Though Vanity Fair and The Independent unfairly framed what was said, upon review, we still found it to be inappropriate.”
“The NYU chapter President submitted her resignation last night,” it added.
The CRA did not immediately return HuffPost’s requests for comment on what exactly was inappropriate. Its NYU chapter also did not return a request for comment.
The group’s statement said it was extending an invitation to Barron Trump to join their ranks, noting that its support of his father is “a pillar of our organization.”
“Barron Trump represents the future of the conservative movement, and we would be honored to have him join College Republicans,” CRA President Will Donahue said.
Vanity Fair spoke to various students and social media influencers to unpack the apparent “mystique” surrounding the young Trump online and on campus.
Walker was not the only one to characterize the 18-year-old’s comings and goings as limited, though some other sources were not named in the article.
Walker faced abuse from MAGA supporters online over her comments, both before and after her resignation.

Walker responded to a HuffPost request for comment by saying she was “not doing great” amid the controversy. She did not comment further.
