Former President Donald Trump said he is “safe and well” after what the FBI said appeared to be an “attempted assassination” on Sunday.
Trump was playing golf at his club in West Palm Beach, Florida, when Secret Service agents noticed the muzzle of a gun sticking through shrubs along the course, The Associated Press reports. An agent fired, prompting a person to flee. He was later taken into custody.
Vice President Kamala Harris said she had been briefed on the situation and is glad Trump is safe.
“Violence has no place in America,” she posted on X, formerly Twitter.
The Democratic vice presidential nominee, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance (Ohio), also both said they were glad to hear Trump was unharmed.
