Former first lady Michelle Obama appeared on Kylie Kelce’s podcast on Thursday and the two bonded over the challenges tall women face.

Kelce, who is married to retired NFL player Jason Kelce, admitted she had “been looking forward to talking to” Obama about “something we have in common. We are both 5’11”.

Obama’s response: “What I say, normal height.”

Kelce explained she has a friend who’s about 5’4”, and “whenever we would joke around about it, she’s like, ‘I’m average size.’ And I’m like, ‘OK.’”

“‘You’re wee,’” Obama joked about Kelce’s friend, before she admitted that she gets frustrated seeing shorter women dating tall men.

“I’m not gonna lie,” Obama said. “Doesn’t it irritate you when the wee people take the tall guys?“

Kelce immediately felt seen.

“Do you know the number of conversations? My sister’s 5’9”. I’m 5’11”,” Kelce said. “When we were in high school, we would always complain about, ’Well, this girl is, like, five feet tall, and she’s dating the guy who’s 6’5”.”

Kelce said she would joke, “You can’t save that for us [tall girls]?”

Kelce also asked Obama if she had always been comfortable with her height or if there was an adjustment period.

“I think it’s a little bit of both,” Obama said. “I was always kind of a tomboy, having a big brother. I was always trying to keep up, and I always found what the boys were doing were more interesting. Right? And we had cousins who were two boys that we were close with, some of our favorites, and so I’m the only girl.”

Obama said that, growing up, she did date some “taller guys” who were on her older brother Craig’s basketball team, but “they were always lying about their height.”

Later in the episode, Obama and Kelce both bonded over another common interest.

“I love a heel. Right?” Obama said, which prompted Kelce to add, “I do not shy away, especially in my adult life. I do not shy away from a heel.”
