Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company, on Thursday announced the six members of the crew set to join its next spaceflight in the spring — and it includes some big names.
The crew, which is led by journalist Lauren Sánchez, Bezos’ fiancée, also features pop star Katy Perry, “CBS Mornings” host Gayle King, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
This marks the 11th human flight for Blue Origin’s New Shepard program.
Sánchez “is honored to lead a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come,” the company said in a press release.
In a post on her Instagram account, Sánchez shared her enthusiasm about the upcoming spaceflight.
“My dad used to teach people how to fly, and I used to hang around the hangar, and I thought dreaming of becoming a pilot was a huge deal, and this is even bigger,” she said.
During the announcement on “CBS Mornings,” King said she was both “terrified and excited at the same time.”
“It’s like how I felt about to deliver a baby,” King said.
Blue Origin has so far flown 52 people over the Kármán line — which is considered the place where outer space starts — including Bezos himself.

This will be the first all-female crew to fly to space since former Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight in 1963, the company said.
