Vice President JD Vance was mocked and accused of “imperial cosplay” on social media following his announcement that he will accompany his wife, second lady Usha Vance, on what will now be a scaled-down visit to Greenland ― where they will visit the U.S. Space Force outpost at Pituffik ― this Friday.
In a video, Vance explained he would “check out how things are going there.”
“Speaking for President Trump,” he said, referencing the president’s increasing rhetoric about seizing control of the Danish self-governing territory, Vance continued: “We want to reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland because we think it’s important to protecting the security of the entire world.”
The majority of critics, though, pointed out that neither Vance nor his wife had actually been invited to the country that Trump has now repeatedly insisted should be part of America.
