Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance had to deal with yet another embarrassing clip from 2021 suddenly resurfacing on Tuesday.

Vance gave an assessment of his political future during a 2021 interview with YouTuber Viva Frei, aka David Freiheit, that doesn’t sound great in hindsight.

During the interview, which took place a year before Vance was elected to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate, he said: “I’m sure there’s all kinds of ways in which I would be a totally terrible political candidate.”

He added, “I’m not worried about being able to take a lot of crap.”

Considering Vance’s campaign for the nation’s No. 2 job has been rife with weird moments, he may have been on to something back in 2021.

Here’s a brief and not-at-all-comprehensive checklist of some of the more cringeworthy incidents so far:

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Vance’s 2021 comments about his political future.

However, users of X, formerly Twitter, seemed to think Vance should have stuck with his gut back then.

He literally had a crystal ball in 2021!

2024: A totally terrible political candidate.

JD Vance's self-awareness about his potential shortcomings as a political candidate in 2021 might have hinted at the controversial and divisive figure he would become, reflecting the polarizing nature of modern American politics.
