Hillary Clinton poked fun at the lead up to her 2016 election loss when asked what Kamala Harris has to do “to avoid a repeat” in November.

“Well, first of all, I don’t think she has Jim Comey in the wings waiting to kneecap her, so that’s good and I’m very grateful for that,” joked the former secretary of state in an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Thursday.

“But I think she is doing what she needs to do.”

Former FBI director James Comey reopened an investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server just days before the 2016 election in a move that’s been dubbed her October surprise, something she’s often blamed as part of the reason behind her loss to Donald Trump.

Clinton, in a September interview with “Firing Line” host Margaret Hoover, warned that an October surprise could happen this month “as it always does” in a presidential election year.

“There will be concerted efforts to distort and pervert Kamala Harris, who she is, what she stands for, what’s she’s done,” said Clinton, who cautioned that the “digital airwaves” could be hit with misinformation.

On Thursday, Clinton cited CNN reporting that voters were “convinced” by Harris during her town hall on the network earlier this week,

“She had shown the kind of empathy and concern about their problems that she’d come forward with her ideas, her suggested policies,” Clinton said.

“So I think she’s doing what she needs to do and, from my perspective, you know, that’s not only her job. It’s the job of all of us who are supporting her. It’s obviously the job of the messaging, the advertising, everything that goes into the final sprint to the election...”
