Actor Eric Dane of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Euphoria” fame revealed he has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), sometimes known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he told People on Thursday. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
Dane plans to keep playing Cal Jacobs on the hit HBO drama “Euphoria.”
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of ‘Euphoria’ next week,” he said to the outlet. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

Among other notable roles, Dane played the captain in the post-apocalyptic show “The Last Ship” from 2014 to 2018.
But he is perhaps best known for his dashing plastic surgeon Mark Sloan, aka McSteamy, on “Grey’s Anatomy” from 2006 to 2012.
Dane, 52, has been married to actor Rebecca Gayheart since 2004 and the couple has two teenaged children.
