George Clooney knows better than to let President Donald Trump get under his skin.
Asked about the politician calling him a “second rate movie ‘star’” and “failed political pundit,” on Truth Social last month, the Oscar winner told “CBS Mornings” host Gayle King, “I don’t care.”
“I’ve known Donald Trump for a long time,” he continued. “My job is not to please the president of the United States. My job is to try and tell the truth when I can and when I have the opportunity.”
Clooney said he was “well aware” of the criticism he gets when he speaks up about politics, also reminding viewers about his clash with billionaire DOGE orchestrator Elon Musk for complaining about his faulty Tesla over a decade ago.
In March, Trump lashed out at Clooney after he criticized the president’s attacks on the press during a “60 Minutes” interview promoting his Broadway play “Good Night, and Good Luck.”

In the interview, he drew parallels between the play, which follows the battle between journalist Edward R. Murrow and Cold War crusader Sen. Joseph McCarthy, and the current president’s disdain for the media.
“Why would the now highly discredited ’60 Minutes’ be doing a total ‘puff piece’ on George Clooney, a second rate movie ‘star,’ and failed political pundit,” Trump asked in his Truth Social post.
In the post, Trump rehashed an old spat he and Clooney had over the actor’s July 2024 op-ed imploring President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential election.
“He fought hard for Sleepy Joe’s election and then, right after the Debate, dumped him like a dog,” the Republican wrote in last month’s Truth Social post.
Back when Clooney’s controversial plea to Biden was published last summer, Trump lambasted him as a “fake movie actor” who “never came close to making a great movie” and shouldn’t be sticking his nose into politics.
But Clooney had a cold clapback to Trump’s demand he “get out of politics and go back to television.”
“You know, I will if he does,” he winked during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
