A suspect in Massachusetts needed rescuing by the very detectives he was reportedly trying to run away from after pulling what police described as “Santa-antics” that went awry.
Police said Robert Langlais, 33, and another man fled via rooftop as officers executed a search warrant at a property in Fall River on Tuesday.
The other man jumped from the roof onto a parked vehicle and escaped, the City of Fall River Police Department wrote in a statement shared on Facebook.
Langlais, though, allegedly “invoked the essence of the seasonal icon and attempted to hide inside of a chimney,” according to the police.
But unlike Father Christmas, he got wedged inside.
Body cam footage shared on social media by the police showed a passerby telling a detective that they’d heard a scream and that they thought a man was stuck in the chimney.
Cops, fire and emergency medical crews eventually freed him by breaking through the bricks.
Langlais was taken to a local hospital “out of precaution,” and when discharged was arrested over possession of Class A and Class B drugs and “a slew of charges from outstanding warrants,” said police.
Another suspect, Tanisha Ibay, 32, was arrested at the scene but “with less theatrics,” said police, for possession of Class A and Class B drugs.
