NextImg:'F**k You!': Basketball Fans Blame Ted Cruz 'Curse' For Another Brutal Loss
LOADINGERROR LOADING

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday cheered on the University of Houston as the Cougars took on the Florida Gators in the NCAA Division I men’s basketball championship game.

The result? Yet another addition to the list of teams he’s “cursed” over the years.

Social media users have long speculated that Cruz has spelled trouble for the Houston Astros, the Texas Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys and other squads he roots for when he catches a game in person.

And Monday was no different after the Houston Chronicle spotted Cruz in a suite with someone who appeared to be Texas Gov. Greg Abbott at the NCAA title game in San Antonio.

The No. 1 Cougars held a 10-point lead over the fellow, top-seeded Gators with roughly 17 minutes left in the game when the Chronicle took to X, formerly Twitter, to share that Cruz was in the building.

But the lead slipped away after the post, as one Houstonian noted, as Florida outscored their opponent 35-23 for the remainder of the game.

The Cougars failed to put a shot in the final possession, leading to the Gators’ first championship since 2007.

It’s unclear when Cruz, who once referred to a basketball hoop as a “basketball ring,” first got the arena.

In the lead-up to Monday’s matchup, Cruz — who, despite “curse” talk, has attended big wins for Texas teams at select games — staged a bet with Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) where he offered to give the Republican and his staff BBQ, beer, ice cream from the Lone Star State if Florida took the W.

Social media users declared that Cruz “did it again” on Monday as some Houston fans left him with a big “fuck you” for continuing the curse.

Fuck you @tedcruz. I swear to god you do this shit on purpose at this point.

Might do some investigative journalism and find out the exact moment Ted Cruz arrived https://t.co/UWRUif4tdM

Ted Cruz is undefeated… as a JINX for the team from Texas. https://t.co/hBzZQyjOMT

There legit needs to be a 30 for 30 one day on just how strong the Ted Cruz curse, this is reaching unfathomable levels https://t.co/MFRVSGx3ij

I feel if all of Texas sports fans can agree that Ted Cruz is the fucking problem pic.twitter.com/HA4bn94bOw

It's uncanny https://t.co/WG1YSmSumq

I am announcing my candidacy right now to primary this guy. My only campaign promise is not to let him curse another Texas team.

so there’s the visual connection, but the tie-in here is the subject matter, as Charon is the ferryman responsible for transporting the souls of the dead to the underworld in Greek Mythology. When @tedcruz shows up, it means your team is dead
