Actor Ellen Pompeo is cutting right to the heart of which character’s death left the deepest scar during her time as Meredith Grey on the ABC program “Grey’s Anatomy.”

While appearing Wednesday on the podcast “Call Her Daddy,” Pompeo let listeners into the waiting room of her emotions surrounding the hit show.

“Which character’s death hit you the hardest?” host Alex Cooper asked.

Without missing a beat, Pompeo responded, “George O’Malley, 007.”

She was referring to actor T. R. Knight’s character, who met a tragic and violent end when he was hit by a bus in Season 5 and later died in Season 6 — which came as a major blow to fans.

While that particular death was emotionally taxing for Pompeo to film, she admitted that it wasn’t her most heart-wrenching moment on set. The actor said that filming the last day with her co-star Sandra Oh, who portrayed the incomparable Cristina Yang, was what truly opened her up.

“She was such a loss,” Pompeo said. “She’s so immensely talented, and I really didn’t think the show could go on without her.”

Pompeo went on to describe Oh’s departure as feeling “like half of the show was leaving.”

In a candid interview with People on Feb. 28, the actor offered a glimpse into what has kept her motivated and grounded throughout her time working on the show.

“The best thing is the financial security, if I’m being very honest,” Pompeo confessed. “It’s been really lucrative, and I think financial security is not something that every actress is afforded, so I’m very grateful for that.”
