Amid the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live,” fans noticed one notable alum not in attendance: Dan Aykroyd.

The “Ghostbusters” star, who was part of the inaugural “SNL” cast, later acknowledged his absence and revealed its one “advantage.”

“All Heads up toasting triumphant SNL 50th,” Aykroyd wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in a post on Wednesday. “Advantage of not attending - got to see every second of concert and show on TV. Quote from my children: ‘Look at daddy’s smile!’ Had it from start to finish. Congratulations Lorne. Well done as usual.”

Prior to the weekend of celebrations, Aykroyd also wrote of his “pride at having been a co-founder of SNL along with everyone we were together with in those four years, five decades ago.”

The comedian, who was the youngest person on the original “SNL” cast roster, stayed at the show from its inception in 1975 to 1979.

Aykroyd’s representative told Variety that he was unable to attend due to “prior commitments.”

Back in November, it seemed that the “Blues Brothers” star would indeed be a part of the show, just like he was for the 40th anniversary of “SNL.”

When asked by the AV Club if he would be in attendance, Aykroyd said, “Well, it depends. On how and when I’m invited, I guess.”

He added that it also “depends on how I can serve.”

“Let me put it that way. How I can serve them best,” the comedian added. “How I can serve Lorne and the whole enterprise best. That’ll determine whether I go or not.”
