Representatives for actor Cynthia Nixon are denying speculation that a shirt she wore in a new TV show trailer was meant as a pro-Palestinian statement.
The star inspired both backlash and praise after viewers noticed her wearing a white, green and red button-up shirt, which seemed to closely resemble the tricolor flag of Palestine, at the start of a promo for Season 3 of the “Sex and the City” reboot, “And Just Like That.” (You can watch the trailer here.)
While many speculated that Nixon’s look was a political gesture, her representatives say the color-blocked Calvin Klein top’s resemblance to the Palestinian flag was unintentional.
“The shirt was provided to Cynthia at an ‘And Just Like That’ marketing shoot by the series wardrobe department. Any similarities to the colors are coincidence,” a spokesperson for Nixon told Newsweek.

While Nixon’s team insists there was no intentional symbolism, the actress has long advocated for peace in Gaza.
In 2023, she joined activists and politicians in calling for a ceasefire, participating in a dayslong hunger strike and protest outside the White House.

At the event, Nixon made a “personal plea” to President Joe Biden, stating, “As the mother of Jewish children whose grandparents are Holocaust survivors, I have been asked by my son to use any voice I have to affirm as loudly as possible that ‘never again’ means ‘never again’ for anyone.”
The star hasn’t shied away from other progressive causes in the past. She is a veteran LGBTQ rights advocate and ran for governor of New York in 2018 under the banner of the Working Families Party.
