NextImg:CNN Data Reporter Spots Key Figure Showing Harris Campaign Going In 'Wrong Direction'

CNN’s senior political data reporter Harry Enten warned that Kamala Harris’ campaign is going in the “wrong direction” on Friday after new polls show her popularity is no longer rising.

“The momentum of Kamala Harris has stalled,” Enten told CNN’s Kate Bolduan.

Enten pointed to polling numbers that show the vice president with a net favorability rating of -15 points in the days prior to her campaign announcement back in July.

That figure rose to -4 points in August and later reached +1 points in September before falling back to -1 points this month.

Bolduan, earlier in the segment, noted that Harris has noticeably been “really sharpening attacks” against Donald Trump in recent weeks and spoken about him in “darker tones.”

Harris still has a higher net favorability rating than Trump who, despite currently being more popular at this point in a campaign than he’s ever been, is “still underwater” at -9 points, according to Enten.

“So, I think there’s this real question in Kamala Harris’ mind, in the campaign’s mind, why is Trump more popular now than he was at this point in 2020 and 2016?” Enten said.

He added, “And I think that is why you’re seeing the sharpening attacks...”

Enten noted that President Joe Biden was “much more” popular than Trump and “barely won” in 2020 while Hillary Clinton lost despite being more popular than her opponent.

“Being more popular than Trump isn’t enough,” he said.

“She wants to continue to see her favorabilities rise but, in fact, they’re going in the wrong direction at this point.”

Why is Harris on the attack? Trump's more popular at this point in this campaign than at this point in either his 2016 or 2020 bids.

Harris's popularity rise, on the other hand, has crested, and she's fallen back (barely) into net negative favorability territory. pic.twitter.com/2hddgwc8Zq
