Bill Hader once got fired from his movie theater job for a reason so funny, even his boss couldn’t make eye contact with him.
The “Saturday Night Live” alum shared the hilarious story during an appearance on his former co-worker’s Netflix show, “Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney.”
“I got fired from a movie theater for ruining the end of ‘Titanic,’” Hader said on the show Wednesday, as the audience laughed. “I was working in a movie theater, and ‘Titanic’ hadn’t come out yet, and a sorority had bought out the movie theater to watch ‘Titanic.’”
“And [the sorority girls] were in the doorway and I was going, ‘Hey, guys. Can you guys move?’” Hader said, adding that the girls “were making fun of me.”
“They said I looked like Charles Manson, which I kinda did,” Hader said. “I had a little bowtie on and a cummerbund, and I was like, ‘Hey guys, please move.’ And they were like, ‘No.’”

“So when they went in, as I tore the tickets, I was like, ‘Enjoy the movie ― the boat sinks at the end, Leo dies, and blah blah.’” he said. “And they were like, ‘No, he doesn’t!’ I go, ‘Yeah, you think he’s asleep! But he’s frozen.’”
Hader joked that “that showed them,” while Mulaney immediately asked if he was fired on the spot, which the “Barry” creator confirmed.
“The guy came down smiling, and he was like, ‘Hey, Bill. I have to fire you,’” though Hader added that the manager obviously “loved it.”
“Couldn’t look me in the eye, though,” Hader said.
The ending of “Titanic” ― where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character does indeed die ― has remained a hotly debated topic, even as the film approaches its 30-year-anniversary.

Though DiCaprio has remained mum as to whether or not his character, Jack, could’ve lived in the end, “Titanic” director James Cameron has a lot of thoughts.
“I’ve never really seen it as a debate, it’s just stupid,” Cameron told BBC Radio 1 in 2019 with a laugh.
“But if you really want to unearth all the dumbass arguments associated with it ... I mean, let’s go back to, could Romeo have been smart and not taken the poison?” Cameron said. “Yes. Could he have decided not to bring his little dagger just in case Juliet might stab herself with it? Yes, absolutely. It sort of misses the point.”
