Social media users were very amused by President Joe Biden’s fed-up reaction to a reporter’s silly question about Donald Trump.
Biden held a press conference at the White House on Wednesday about Hurricane Milton ahead of its landfall in Florida. During his remarks, he denounced his predecessor for spreading “irresponsible” lies about the government’s response to Hurricane Helene.
“Sir, have you considered calling him and asking him to stop doing that?” a reporter asked, referring to Trump’s spread of misinformation about the deadly storms.
“Oh, god,” Biden muttered wearily, before moving along to another question.
Trump has shown time and time again that simply “asking him to stop” doing something will have little to no effect.
He’s added fuel to the fire during numerous crises over the years, derailing authorities’ efforts to keep public safety messaging on track by throwing a muddle of misinformation into the mix. He did this even when it was his own government attempting to keep the public informed, adding substantial chaos to the COVID-19 pandemic, extreme weather events and other disasters.
Attempting to correct Trump or do the right thing often resulted in further disruption.
In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the Republican nominee has been characteristically unhelpful, spreading falsehoods and politicizing the disaster to attack Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
