Movie theaters across the country are trying to contend with pandemonium at screenings of “A Minecraft Movie.”
Based on the best-selling video game, the PG-rated comedy-adventure attracted thousands upon thousands of teenagers to theaters when it opened last Friday.
And while businesses have been happy to rack up all those ticket sales, some young viewers have reportedly been causing major chaos at the cinema.
Social media has been flush with examples of “Minecraft” mayhem, with dozens of videos capturing raucous and mostly underage audiences screaming, swearing, dancing, trashing theaters and even launching fireworks indoors during the film.
Many of the most viral clips show crowds going berserk during a scene where the game’s coveted “chicken jockey” makes a cameo. (Apparently, the rooster-riding baby zombie is one of the hardest characters to conjure in all of Minecraft.)
The theatrical anarchy has prompted multiple theaters to issue warnings about the bad behavior, with one New Jersey movie house even deciding to ban underage filmgoers without adult chaperones.
In a Saturday Facebook post, the Garden State’s Township Theatre announced that “any minors” must have a grownup in tow and “unaccompanied groups of boys will not be admitted” due to “completely unacceptable behavior, including vandalism” by previous young patrons.
“If your son was at Township Theatre last night, we strongly encourage you to have a conversation with him about his behavior,” the notice added.
An even wilder incident happened in Wasilla, Alaska, where police were called to a theater when someone from a “rowdy” group of 15 or so boys reportedly “body-slammed an employee.”

A seemingly similar debacle was recorded and shared on TikTok by one of the hosts of the Long Island, New York-based “Salesmen: After Hours” podcast, who witnessed another gaggle of teenage blockheads being escorted out of a “Minecraft” screening by the cops.
HuffPost has reached out to representatives for several major movie chains to inquire about incidents at their theaters.
Starring Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers and Sebastian Hansen, “A Minecraft Movie” has been almost universally panned by critics.
But dreadful reviews didn’t seems to scare away audiences, as the movie has raked in a reported $185.4 million in the U.S. in just less than a week.
