Words? Well, they have meaning, and there’s one word in particular that Ana Navarro prefers to avoid, especially when it’s uttered by journalist Emily Austin.
During a Wednesday night broadcast of CNN’s “News Night With Abby Phillips,” a not-so-friendly exchange unfolded between Navarro and Austin when the latter referred to “The View” host as “hysterical.” The sparks flew over a discussion about President Donald Trump’s administration retaliating against a journalist from The Associated Press for the outlet’s refusal in referring to the Gulf of Mexico stirctly as the Gulf of America.
The president recently changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico, a name with centuries of history, to the Gulf of America, because, in his words, “it’s ours.”

Given this act of retaliation, Navarro proposed that journalists should “band together” to protest such overreach. Her next statement, however, was the catalyst for Austin’s critique.
“If the bully manages to bully one, he’s not going to stop at one,” Navarro explained.
Austin countered that the situation wasn’t quite as “emotional” as Navarro was “making it out to be.” She went further to implore that Navarro take out the “hysteria” in her statements.
“Who’s being hysterical,” Navarro replied. “You obviously don’t know what a hysterical Ana Navarro is like.”

In a longer YouTube clip, what followed was a back-and-forth, touching on everything from the geopolitical naming of the gulf to the broader rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Yet Navarro didn’t retreat from her earlier stance, and she concluded with a point of emphasis.
“I would rather you not refer to me as hysterical for expressing an opinion,” she said, continuing by stating that the act was “incredibly disrespectful.”
