NextImg:Women's sport issued stark warning amid rise of trans athletes

Commentator Lauren Chen has hit out at the implementation of "transgender ideology" in the state of Utah, as transgender athlete Lia Thomas launches a legal bid against World Aquatics.

Following a vote in 2022, the World Aquatics governing body voted to stop transgender women from competing in women's elite races, if they have gone through the process of male puberty.

Prior to the ban, transgender women could compete among biological women, as long as they lowered their testosterone levels.

American swimmer Lia Thomas, who became the first transgender athlete to win the highest US national college title when she won in 2022, is now taking legal action against the move.

The 25-year-old is taking her case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.

The court said of Thomas's action: "Ms Thomas accepts that fair competition is a legitimate sporting objective and that some regulation of transgender women in swimming is appropriate.

"However, Ms Thomas submits that the Challenged Provisions are invalid and unlawful as they discriminate against her."

In a discussion with commentator Lauren Chen, GBN America host Patrick Christys says despite the ban, the rise in transgender athletes is "snatching" the sporting careers from biological women.

Patrick fumed: "Parents put their daughters into education, they give them the best start in life. They get them to a situation where they can compete competitively and that gets snatched away because a bloke in a bathing suit turns up and wants to race against them and win."

Lauren Chen responded: "Absolutely, it's maddening. And the irony is that ultimately it will be feminism itself as a movement that is responsible for the downfall of women's sports if we continue on this path.

"There are advantages to going through male puberty that you simply cannot take away way just because you reduce someone's testosterone levels. The bone structure is different, the muscles are different, everything is different, and it does lead to male athletes having an advantage over female ones regardless of how they may see themselves or identify."

Chen outlined the other side of the argument, stating: "Then the argument is what about these trans athletes that actually haven't gone through puberty? Surely that must be OK? And the answer is still no.

"There is still a difference between males and females and they should not be competing with each other."

In criticism of Lia Thomas's legal bid, Chen hit out at her for "ignoring the fact that biology is real" and moves like this will only "please the activists".

Chen stated: "The male and female bodies are simply they're simply not the same and trying to act as if these biological differences don't exist in the name of ideology, in the name of pleasing a very small portion of the population is hurting women.

"There's a reason why we don't see trans athletes who are born female excelling in male sports the same way we do the inverse. It's hurting these female competitors."

She continued: "I understand if you're trans and you want to swim. This might be hard news to hear, but the reality is that competitive sports are not a human right and you are not entitled to these female spaces."
