NextImg:'We did not sign up for this!' Peter Bleksley tears into 'unsustainable' migration levels amid mass protest

Peter Bleksley has launched a scathing attack on Britain's "unsustainable" levels of both legal and illegal migration, amid mass protests across the country.

Speaking to GB News, the former Scotland Yard Detective declared Britons "did not sign up for this level of migration", as record-breaking numbers continue to cross the Channel.

Thousands of Britons demonstrated in dozens of cities across the nation, expressing their outrage and frustration at the ongoing migrant crisis.

Peter Bleksley declared Britain's current illegal and legal migration numbers are 'unsustainable'

Discussing the outpouring of protests on GB News, Bleksley said handling the migrant crisis "would be easy" if only the Government "did their job".

He explained: "It's really not difficult stuff. It's actually really quite easy, if only Governments would do their job.

"We did not sign up for this level of immigration, this type of immigration and this fundamental lack of integration, that's what decent, hard-working people are worried about."

Highlighting how different the approach to migration and integration was 40 years ago, Bleksley stated: "In the 1980s, me and my generation were told, 'don't be racist, accept people with different coloured skin who've come into this country and embrace them'.

"And do you know what, we did. Because they ran our local convenience store, they became sporting icons, and they were work colleagues. And by and large, people integrated."

Expressing his concern for the decline in integration in recent years, Bleksley told GB News: "But what has happened in recent years?

"Huge numbers of people, both legally and illegally, have come to this country. Unsustainable numbers that have put huge pressures on all our resources."

He added: "The people that come in these small boats, of course, are a very visible and a visceral thing that gets so many people, including me, very annoyed."

Bleksley told GB News that small boat crossings are a 'visceral' factor for Britons in the migrant crisis

A total of 435 small boat migrants crossed the English Channel on Saturday, taking the number of arrivals this year to more than 26,000.

Since the UK-France returns deal came into operation this week, a total of 838 migrants have made the illegal crossing.

According to GB News figures, the total number of arrivals for the year so far now stands at 26,274, compared to 17,638 who arrived at the same point in 2024.

A Home Office spokesman said: "The people-smuggling gangs do not care if the vulnerable people they exploit live or die, as long as they pay, and we will stop at nothing to dismantle their business models and bring them to justice.

"That is why this Government has put together a serious plan to take down these networks at every stage."
