Tory MP Richard Holden clashed with an anti-Brexit protester during a live interview on GB News and wasted no time in brutally shutting him down.

Mr Holden was speaking to GB News about the migrant crisis, and claimed that the UK needs a strong deterrent.

This caused a man holding an ant-Brexit sign in the background to shout out "this wouldn't have happened before Brexit."

As GB News host Ellie Costello tried to continue the interview, Mr Holden interrupted and set the record straight.

The Shadow Transport Secretary said: "I have somebody shouting at me from behind and saying that there weren't any illegal migration to the UK before, before Brexit.

"What we saw actually was, was people dying in the backs of lorries before then.

"And actually I think it's absolutely incumbent on any government to have a proper deterrent.

"So however people get to the UK, however they get to the UK, we do not allow them to come and stay if they are here illegally.

"Otherwise we'll see more deaths, like in the backs of lorries or crossing the channel in small boats."

This comes after GB News revealed that at least 500 migrants have crossed into UK waters so far, with more boats launching from the French coast.

Almost 1,100 had also entered the UK illegally via small boats on Saturday alone.

As Cabinet colleagues describe new Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood as "hard as nails", people smugglers appear to have ignored her tough stance.

On Ms Mahmood's first full day in office, smugglers sent 1,097 migrants towards the UK.

However, Mr Holden was also grilled on the issue of Israel.

Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the country was ready to agree to a deal that would end the war, secure the release of all remaining hostages, only around 20 of whom are believed to still be alive and lead to the disarmament of Hamas.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, urged the estimated one million Palestinians in famine-stricken Gaza City to evacuate immediately, as Israeli forces stepped up their offensive to seize control of the area.

"In the last two days we brought down 50 terrorist high-rises, and this is only the beginning of the ground operation in Gaza City," he said in a video.

"I say to the residents of Gaza City: you have been warned, get out of there."
