Conservative MP Philip Davies has hit out at modern day feminism in a scathing rant.

It comes after a study exposed the attitudes of feminists towards men, showing them to be mostly positive.

Speaking on GB News, Davies said the findings are reflective of the nature of modern day feminism.

He asked Dawn Neesom, “are you a man hater?”, to which Neesom jokingly remarked, “I couldn’t eat a whole one”.

Davies continued: “My problem with modern day feminists is, they seem to want equality when it suits them.

“But they want special treatment when it suits them. They don’t want to be given the same prison sentences as men at the courts.

“They think they should be given special treatment as a woman, but they want equality when it suits them.

“My view is, you can’t pick and choose what equality is. You have to have the full monty.”

Dawn Neesom waded in by branding Davies’ remarks “fighting talk”.

The research, led by Aífe Hopkins-Doyle, a psychologist at the University of Surrey, studied the attitudes of nearly 10,000 people in nine countries.

“The headline findings are that feminists, on average, have largely positive attitudes towards men”, she said.

The study also confirmed that many people believe that feminists tend to have more negative attitudes towards men, when this was proven not to be the case.

In the journal Psychology of Women Quarterly, Hopkins-Doyle argued their findings have exposed the “misandry myth”.

She added: “This trope has been used to delegitimise and discredit the [feminist] movement, has deterred women from joining it, and motivated men to oppose it, sometimes with violence.”

Hopkins-Doyle added her teams results are important because “debate should be based on accurate rather than inaccurate information and we hope that the findings contribute to less polarised and more informed discussion”.

The researchers carried out several surveys in a bid to discoed the attitudes of feminists and non-feminists.
