Waitrose is set to launch five new own-label wagyu beef products on September 18, offering customers a taste of luxury at home.

The range includes meatballs, burgers and ribeye, sirloin, and rump steaks, all part of the supermarket's growing No.1 range.

Waitrose told customers: "Wagyu beef originates from Japan and is famous for being the most flavourful, melt-in-the-mouth speciality beef on the market."

Wagyu beef is graded on the Beef Marbling Scale, a globally recognised standard ranging from zero to nine. Higher scores indicate more tender, flavourful and luxurious meat. Waitrose's wagyu beef is graded a minimum of six on this scale.

The supermarket said: "This is the optimum level to ensure our customers are getting the best quality wagyu at home for a fraction of the price served in restaurants.

"This rating will be displayed on every pack, so customers can know exactly what to expect from our wagyu beef."

The new Waitrose wagyu range includes three steak cuts: ribeye, sirloin, and rump. "Juicy" meatballs and beef burgers complete the line-up, offering versatility for various recipes.

For culinary inspiration, customers can visit Waitrose.com. The website features various recipes, including wagyu steaks with chilli & chive butter and frites.

All Waitrose wagyu comes from cattle sired by registered pedigree wagyu bulls and is reared alongside our standard British beef products to ensure the same high-welfare standards.

Waitrose

Wagyu beef product developer, Tina Edwards, said: "It's no secret that wagyu beef is in higher demand than ever before - with searches for wagyu burgers up more than 100 per cent on Waitrose.com compared to the same time last year.

"It was really important for us to deliver not only a great tasting product for our customers but to deliver on our high-welfare standards that we are so proud of as a brand.

"I’m thrilled to be introducing the highest supermarket graded wagyu to shelves and with five new products to choose from, our customers will be able to enjoy top quality wagyu at home, in a number of recipes."
