Two people have died after a restaurant collapsed on a Majorca beach, with over a dozen more left injured.

Of the 14 people injured when the ceiling caved in at the popular establishment, four of them are said to be in a "serious condition".

Authorities fear that many more may be trapped beneath the rubble, after the first floor collapsed of the restaurant on Playa de Palma.

A spokesman for a regional emergency coordination centre said: "We can confirm two people have died in the collapse of the building in Playa de Palma.

"We can also confirm 12 to 14 people have suffered injuries of differing degrees. Psychologists have been activated."

Approximately 100 emergency responders have been called to the scene.
