NextImg:Tumble dryer warning as popular models sold in the UK pose fire hazard – 'Stop using immediately!'

Argos has issued an urgent recall affecting six tumble dryer models from Haier following the discovery of a fire hazard.

The retailer announced that a manufacturing fault could lead to internal short circuits in various Hoover and Candy appliances, potentially causing fires during operation.

The defect affects specific heat pump and condenser dryer models produced since January 2019.

Haier Europe, the manufacturer, identified production inconsistencies that create the risk of short-circuiting.

The recalled models include two Candy integrated heat pump dryers (catalogue numbers 9203561and 8789842), alongside four Hoover variants.

The Hoover range comprises three integrated heat pump models in white finishes (9072905, 7666258, and 8175528), plus an integrated heat pump model in black (8732552).

All six appliances share a common manufacturing defect that emerged in units produced from 1 January 2019 onwards.

The technical issue involves an "inconsistency in the production" process that can trigger electrical faults within the machines.

Various tumble dryers have been recalled due to a fire risk

Whilst Haier Europe characterises fire incidents as occurring "on rare occasions", the company has prioritised consumer safety by initiating the comprehensive recall programme.

Customers who own these dryers must "stop using them immediately" and disconnect them from the power supply.

Haier Europe has arranged for qualified engineers to visit affected households at no cost to perform necessary safety modifications.

Owners can verify whether their appliance requires modification by entering the serial number on Haier's dedicated safety website at https://productsafety.haier.co.uk.

No other Haier, Hoover, or Candy products sold by Argos are affected by the recall

This safety alert represents an expansion of an earlier recall announced on June 3, 2025, which initially covered just two models.

The June notice had already flagged the short circuit risk, though at that time the manufacturer assessed the danger as "low risk".

Argos has apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience, emphasising that no other Haier, Hoover, or Candy products sold by the retailer are impacted by this safety issue.

Customers seeking further information or needing to arrange an engineer visit should access the dedicated website at https://productsafety.haier.co.uk.

Product and food recalls must always be taken seriously to ensure customer safety.

M&S, Tesco, Lidl and more recently pulled food from shelves over contamination fears, with shoppers urged to "take notice".
