A young Kansas City Chiefs fan narrowly avoided serious injury at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Sunday when defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton made a crucial catch.

The incident occurred as players were leaving the field following the Chiefs' 30-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

The child, wearing a Nick Bolton jersey, reached out to collect gloves from Wharton when he tumbled head-first through a gap in the stadium railings.

Wharton reacted swiftly, catching the young supporter and helping him back to safety.

Travis Kelce, speaking on the "New Heights" podcast with his brother Jason, admitted he witnessed the incident but initially "kept it moving".

The Chiefs' tight end questioned the stadium's design, saying: "I don't know who the brainiac was who cut the railing right there.

"You see how there's a little gap?

"What the f*** is that for?"

He then jokingly suggested legal action: "Dude he should f***ing go to school with a neck brace on and sue the f***ing Panthers.

"Get rich quick, kid."

Jason Kelce joined in the banter, quipping that "maybe the Panthers are anti-kids".

Travis was quick to praise Wharton's actions, saying: "Shoutout to Terk for making sure the little guy was alright.

"Once I saw Terk was over there I knew everything was good."

The exchange between the Kelce brothers on their podcast has since gone viral, with the video being viewed millions of times on social media.
