Trans rights campaigners have announced they will "fight" guidance that they cannot use lavatories and changing rooms of the gender they identify as.

One activist said she was prepared to be arrested "multiple times" while another added "it's a war."

It comes as The Times reports a final version of the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) guidance on gendered services will allegedly urge service providers to ban trans people from single-sex facilities and groups that relate to their gender identity.

The final version is expected to be published later this month.

Following the Supreme Court ruling, which argued the definition of sex referred to "biological sex", the EHRC will submit its final guidance to Bridget Phillipson, the women and equalities minister, within weeks.

The new rules will allow bodies to prevent transgender women from taking part in women’s sports

While gender-critical activists welcomed the ruling, saying it represented a "victory for common sense", critics of the regulations said it would push trans people out of public life.

The Good Law Project, who intend to challenge the ruling, claimed the provisions would go "far beyond" what the Supreme Court judgment requires.

The group's leader Jolyon Maugham said: "The guidance amounts to a bathroom ban for trans people, violating people’s right to privacy in their everyday lives.

"The EHRC’s guidance is subject to legal challenge. A hearing is scheduled for later this year, and a court will decide whether it is compatible with the Equality Act.

"Given the evident hostility of the guidance to the rights and dignities of trans people, we are confident the Commission will lose."

Reacting to the news, Sophie Molly, a trans rights campaigner, posted on social media on Friday morning: "Do not comply. I’m prepared to be arrested multiple times over this."

Another, using the moniker Invisible Entity, said: "Let the war begin. Fingers crossed. You need to fight for all of us globally. It’s a war."

There was an additional concern that EHRC received 50,000 responses to its consultation from businesses, organisations and individuals, however did not have time to read them all.

Alex Parmar-Yee of Trans+ Solidarity Alliance told Pink News the EHRC’s claim that it could consider over 50,000 submissions in less than a month is "simply not credible" adding: "This is an emergency, and we urge people to tell their MP now, this isn’t how we should make decisions about fundamental rights."

An EHRC spokesman said: "The code of practice has not yet been finalised. We received an extremely high volume of responses to the consultation, and are grateful to everyone who shared their feedback.

"To ensure we give these responses the consideration they merit, we are working at pace to analyse them and are amending the draft code of practice text where necessary to make it as clear and helpful as possible.

"But our code will remain consistent with the law as set out by the Supreme Court."
