NextImg:Tiger Woods' son Charlie Woods falls short in bid to qualify for 2024 US Open with round of 81

Charlie Woods' hopes of qualifying for the 2024 US Open have ended at the first hurdle after he shot a round of 81 at The Legacy Golf and Tennis Club.

As the son of golfing icon Tiger Woods, Charlie's young career has been closely monitored by fans of the sport.

The father-son duo have competed alongside each other at four PNC Championships and Charlie got his first taste of a PGA Tour qualifying event at the pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic earlier this year.

He fell short on that occasion after shooting 16-over par, but it's clear the teenager has his eyes set on following in the footsteps of his famous father.

At 15 years of age, Charlie was among the 10,000-plus entrants attempting to qualify for this year's US Open.

The huge qualifying event begins with local qualifiers across the United States at 109 sites between April 22-May 20.

Charlie took part in the 18-hole local qualifier in Port St. Lucie, Florida, as part of the 84-player field.

The top-five finishers after 18 holes would progress to the second and final qualifying stage, which takes places over 36 holes at 10 USA and three international sites.

Charlie got off to a slow start as he opened up with a bogey and a double bogey before making the turn at four-over par.

The teenager carded another double bogey on the back nine along with three bogeys to finish nine-over par for the round.

That placed him tied-66th at the time his round ended with just under 10 players under par.

Michael Buttacavoli topped the field after shooting a three-under par round of 69.
