Three Scottish brothers have set the world record for the fastest ever, non-stop, unsupported row across the Pacific Ocean.

The expedition, which took the Edinburgh-born trio 139 days to complete, involved a gruelling 9,000-mile row across the Pacific.

Jamie, Lachlan, and Euan Maclean began from Lima Peru, in April and made landfall in Cairns, Australia, on Saturday, August 30, at 1.52am UTC (11.52am BST).

After nearly five months at sea, middle brother Jamie told media: "This won't surprise anybody - but all I want is a pizza.

"It was the most incredible, relentless, and often surreal experience of my life. While I might miss the routine, the solitude, the sunsets, and sunrises, and so much more, right now I'm just very glad to be back on land with my friends and family who I've missed so much. The whole thing will take a while to sink in."

Ewan, 33, who left his job as an engineer at Dyson to take on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, added: "The days have been long and yet the weeks have flown past, it's strange to think of the time that we've spent out here.

"We've shed tears of joy and laughed till our cheeks hurt. And at times we've cried with sadness and with fear, but our spirits have been lifted, time and time again, by the support of so many rallying behind us."

The Scots were welcomed at Cairns Marlin Marina today by more than 50 friends and family, including their mother, Sheila who had travelled from the UK, along with hundreds of cheering fans.

THE MACLEAN BROTHERS

The brothers have been rowing in two-hour shifts non-stop since leaving Lima 20 weeks ago, without a safety boat or resupplies, and are aiming to raise £1 million for clean water projects in Madagascar.

So far, they have raised over £795,000 for clean water projects in Madagascar, with support pouring in from around the world - including support from Hollywood Actor Mark Wahlberg, Ewan McGregor, and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.

During their world record breaking attempt, the Maclean brothers told GB News live from the Pacific some of the threats they'd encountered.

Jamie Maclean admitted it has felt like "one setback after another", as the trio fought through storms and stared down threats from the deep. At one point, a huge marlin tailed their vessel, sparking fears it could spear straight through the hull.

"You're always on edge", Jamie explained to The People's Channel. "Marlins often chase the little fish that hide under the boat and sometimes pierce straight through it."

During their crossing, one of the three brothers was washed overboard in a violent storm during a night shift, only to be pulled back on the boat by his older brother Ewan.

Lachlan Maclean, 27, said he was lucky to be attached to his boat by a safety line during 40mph winds and 6m waves.

THE MACLEAN BROTHERS

GB News Eamonn Holmes previously told the brothers they had his "total unconditional respect" and that he was "getting sea sick" just watching them.

The brothers' boat, Rose Emily, was named in tribute to a sister they never met. The boat, which the Edinburgh trio built alongside ocean rowing legend Mark Slats, is believed to be the fastest and lightest ocean rowing boat ever made.

While they rowed across the world's largest ocean, Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg called the trio via satellite phone and told them their incredible journey deserved to be made into a film.
