



Thomas Markle, the estranged father of the Duchess of Sussex, has been struggling to adapt to life in the Philippines after leaving his long-time home in Mexico earlier this year.
The 80-year-old former television lighting director relocated from his cliffside property in Rosarito, where he had lived for more than a decade near the US border.
He made the move to Southeast Asia accompanied by his son Thomas Jr., 58, who is Meghan's half-brother.
The pair have settled on the densely populated island of Cebu, where they face significant challenges adjusting to their new environment.

"Thomas and his son took the plunge and moved to Southeast Asia," a source told The Post. "It's been hard but they have each other."
The extreme weather conditions on Cebu Island have proved particularly challenging for the elderly Thomas Sr.
Summer temperatures range from 80 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, with humidity levels frequently reaching 90 per cent, making the adjustment especially difficult for the ailing octogenarian.

The insider who spoke to The Post revealed that the duo "only recently" moved into their new accommodation, suggesting the adjustment period remains ongoing for both men.
"There are only two types of weather in Cebu: hot and humid, and hot and humid and raining. It's brutal even for men half his age, but it's still sad to see him looking as though he's struggling," a source told The Mirror last month.
Thomas Markle was caught staging paparazzi photographs for payment ahead of Meghan and Harry's wedding in 2018.
Despite initially being set to walk Meghan down the aisle, Thomas suffered a heart attack and could not attend the event.
During her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan confirmed their continued estrangement, saying she "grieves a lot" and has "lost my father".

Despite their long estrangement, Thomas Markle has expressed a desire to reunite with his daughter and "bring the whole family together".
He has never met his grandchildren, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, three.
Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, 68, commented on the staged photographs incident, saying she was "absolutely stunned" and that "as a parent, that's not what you do. That's not parenting."
