Suella Braverman has issued a stark warning to Rishi Sunak over the Government's new Rwanda legislation, telling him that "time is running out" to change course on the issue.

The former Home Secretary was speaking just hours after the party was plunged into chaos last night, with the shock resignation of Immigration Robert Jenrick.

He stepped down with immediate effect minutes after James Cleverly presented the new plan for migration to the Commons.

Speaking the following morning, Braverman said: "Sunak gave me firm assurances, personal and after extensive discussion, that he would stick to my plan. Ultimately he blocked that plan.

"I very much hope that the Prime Minister changes course."

She added: "There is still time to change this bill, its just been introduced. There is time to change course, I very much urge him to encourage a receptive attitude to those changes."

Asked what will happen if those changes are not implemented, Braverman told the BBC: "Ultimately this bill will fail. We've put two acts of parliament through already. We've done huge amounts of work to stop this problem.

"Time is running out and we cannot afford to put forward another bill that will fail."
