



With school summer holidays underway across the country, now is the time to explore the UK with a family staycation. If in need of some inspiration, new research has found the "happiest" places to visit.
The Isle of Wight has been named as Britain's most joyful destination for family holidays in new research, ranking highly for activities and its appeal for families with young children.
The survey, conducted by holidaycottages.co.uk, looked at data for 12,000 people and evaluated destinations across multiple criteria, including entertainment options for different age groups and overall family-friendliness.
Pembrokeshire and Hampshire also ranked highly on the list, with other options promising sandy beaches and scenic walks.

The English island received the highest family-friendliness score of 12.2 out of 15. One survey participant shared their experience: "On the Isle of Wight, it's tranquil and so magical. A very unique place for a holiday for all the family, including the family pet."
Summer visitors can enjoy sandy beaches at Shanklin and Sandown, perfect for wholesome seaside activities. Blackgang Chine, Britain's oldest amusement park, provides entertainment for adventure-seeking families.
The Dinosaur Isle Museum offers educational experiences for children fascinated by prehistoric creatures. Families can dine at The Caulkheads near Sandown, which features indoor play facilities and a silent cinema.
Walking routes include the Freshwater to Needles path, leading to National Trust viewpoints. Free attractions encompass The Donkey Sanctuary and Wild Garlic Farm, where visitors can harvest their own produce.
Wales's coastal gem achieved a family-friendliness score of 11.8 out of 15. A survey respondent recalled: "We have visited Pembrokeshire since our children were babies, we recall happy days on the beaches, building sandcastles and paddling in the sea."
The region offers a mix of spectacular coastal landscapes and family-friendly attractions. At Folly Farm, children can meet with animals, including lions and penguins.
Pembroke Castle hosts educational summer programmes featuring falconry demonstrations and historical re-enactments. Tenby's Blue Flag beaches are gorgeous, and holidaymakers can end their days with some traditional fish and chips.
The county's blend of natural beauty and organised attractions creates memorable experiences for visitors of all ages.

The county landed in third position with a rating of 11.6 out of 15. The New Forest National Park dominates Hampshire's appeal, featuring historic woodlands, moorland and wild ponies. Visitors can explore via walking trails or hired bicycles.
