Team Europe have retained the Ryder Cup, despite a spirited fightback from Team USA that threatened to derail their hopes of success at Bethpage Black.

Luke Donald's side went into the final day 12-5 up and seemingly cruising towards glory.

But Team USA didn't read the script, with Keegan Bradley's team putting up a strong fight while roared on by a raucous home crowd.

Ultimately, however, Europe were just about able to get the job done - with Shane Lowry bagging the decisive putt.
