Suella Braverman has declared "enough is enough" as she praised her constituents in Waterlooville after asylum housing in the town was scrapped.
Attending a gathering of locals in the town centre, the Conservative MP for Fareham and Waterlooville thanked them for "standing up for our country" with their demonstrations against the plans.
Plans put forward by Havant Borough Council were scrapped after protests by residents in the area. The Government had informed the council that the former retail premises in Waterlooville was "unsuitable" accommodation.

Addressing the residents who fought for the plans to be scrapped, Braverman told her constituents: "Ladies and gentlemen, friends, the great people of Waterlooville, this is not normal.
"For the second time now in two weeks, hundreds of you, thousands of you have taken to the streets to stand up for your country. Patriotic, law abiding, fair minded, decent people who love Waterlooville, who love our country, have taken to peaceful protest to say enough is enough.
"And it takes a very special kind of person to take a stand for their country in the way that you have. And so I am here simply to say thank you to each and every one of you and everybody who has taken a stand and spoken up for our great country that we all love."
Highlighting the frustration felt by the community about Britain's migrant crisis, Braverman added: "The reality is you're fed up, you're scared and you're angry. I get that now.

"It was local Conservative councillors who came to me and they told me that they had discovered a secret plan. Havant Borough Council and the Home Office were planning to house illegal migrants and asylum seekers here in Waterlooville. No one had been consulted, no one had been asked, no one agreed to it. We had to act."
Hailing the "victory for Waterlooville" in getting the plans scrapped, Braverman declared: "This victory, it is not my victory, it is not Gwen Robinson and the Conservatives, this is your victory.
"This is a victory for Waterlooville. This is a victory for the British people, so thank you for the courage, thank you for your moral clarity, and thank you for your determination."
Noting the rising crime figures across Britain as a result of the migrant crisis, Braverman stated: "You've told me that you're scared, and you're right to be scared. You're scared because up to a quarter of sex offences in this country are committed by foreign nationals. You're scared of asylum seekers attacking our women and our girls, our mums and our daughters.

"You've told me that you're angry and you're right to be angry about your people. You pay your taxes, you do the right thing, and then you see your money going to people who have broken into our country illegally.
"You're right to be angry. You've told me that you feel betrayed, and you're right to feel betrayed, because there are thousands of people locally who are waiting for housing, who are waiting for services, but they get pushed to the back of the queue because of illegal migrants and asylum seekers. Enough is enough."
Hitting back at critics who declared her and her constituents "racist, xenophobic, and inflammatory", Braverman concluded: "Over the course of this campaign, we've all been called a lot of things. We've been called racist, we've been called xenophobic, they've called me inflammatory, divisive. Let me tell you something. We are none of those things.
"We are people who love this country, and we're willing to stand up for it. It is not racist to want to control our borders. It is not xenophobic to want to. To take care and protect our towns. It is not racist to stand up for our country and for our children.
"So I want to tell you this, Waterlooville, and I want to leave you with this. Keep speaking out, keep standing up, keep fighting peacefully, respectfully, but without apology for your country."
