NextImg:Steve Bannon predicts THIS is who will be the next Prime Minister of the UK - and it may surprise you

Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon has claimed Sadiq Khan could become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Speaking to GB News, Mr Bannon said Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer “doesn’t have the firepower” to win long-term support and warned that the economic situation will only make things worse for him.

Mr Bannon said: "Starmer doesn’t have the firepower. And it’s only going to get worse if you look downstream, particularly at where the economy is heading, it’s only going to get worse. He’s at 11 per cent, he’s pretty much tapped out.

"I happen to think, and people tell me I’m dead wrong, that eventually they’ll turn to Sadiq Khan, and Khan becomes Prime Minister.

"And then? Then you’re really in it. I think that’s coming. I know there’s a lot of politics inside Labour that I don’t follow, and don’t care to follow, but from the outside I can see this ending with Sadiq Khan as Prime Minister.

"And after that, the next shift in Government will be Nigel Farage as Prime Minister. Maybe even Mamdani as the US President."

Mr Bannon argued that both Mr Khan and Mr Farage represent rising populist currents in British politics, likening Farage’s efforts to his own work in building Donald Trump’s grassroots support in the US.

He said: "What Nigel is building now is a grassroots movement. It doesn’t have a ton of resources, it’s labour-intensive, and it’s tough."

Mr Bannon is a key figure in US politics and was influential in major decisions like the 2017 US withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.

He was also White House chief strategist during the first seven months of Mr Trump's first administration

In the past, Donald Trump has made his feelings clear on Sadiq Khan, who is currently the Mayor of London, claiming that he is "nasty guy".

During a trip to Scotland to meet with Sir Keir Starmer in July, the US President blasted Mr Khan as a "nasty" person.

"I'm not a fan of your Mayor," Mr Trump told the Prime Minister and reporters.

"I think he's done a terrible job, the Mayor of London. He's a nasty person."

The Prime Minister interjected: "He's actually a friend of mine."

Dismissing Sir Keir, the president continued: "No, I think he's done a terrible job, but I would certainly visit London."
