Pimlico Plumbers founder Charlie Mullins has brutally shut down Doctor Bing Jones after he backed a proposed "heat strike" by NHS doctors, suggesting it means "doctors are prepared to let people die over 1C".

Members of British Medical Association union have drafted a proposal calling on the NHS to introduce a "national maximum workplace temperature", that would allow all non-essential staff to walk out if it was breached.

Hitting out at the plans, Mullins told GB News that the proposal is "disgusting", casting doubt over the strike ever being approved.

Mullins fumed: "I don't think it's going to happen. Anybody with common sense would not strike over a temperature thing. Are doctors are prepared to let people die if we reach more than 33C? I don't think so."

Hitting back at Mullins, Dr Jones argued that "thousands of people die" in heatwaves in the UK: "This is about trying to highlight the fact that that thousands of people die when it's very, very hot during heatwaves. Literally thousands die, babies die, elderly people, vulnerable people die."

Host Patrick Christys then interjected, asking Dr Jones to clarify "how many babies died in Britain because it got to 32C", to which Dr Jones responded: "During the last really big heat wave when Britain reached the hottest temperature it's ever reached, 40C, there was something like 8,000 excess deaths.

"People are dying all over the world, this is a serious issue. Doctors are going to be the first people dealing with the climate collapse.

"We're destroying our climate and we're destroying our health, and doctors are doing the right thing. They're not making fun as you are doing, Patrick, making fun of the biggest issue of our time."

Weighing in on the debate, Mullins told Dr Jones that he is making it "more about the climate" than the doctors wanting to strike: "You're making a big thing out of the climate, but this isn't about that.

"If they are working in air conditioned hospitals, they're inside, how can it be affecting doctors? Surely the people that need that help are the people that are suffering or ill.

"So you're telling me doctors are prepared to let people die over 1C? I say, no way would they do that. They're not that type of people."

Citing a report about hospital incidents when the temperature hit 26C, Dr Jones argued: "A report said that when you get over 26C, people suffer. There were 7,000 incidents when hospital wards got over that temperature.

'The temperature is going up all the time. Today, there were 60 of the leading climate scientists in the world saying that we are bankrupt. And if we keep going as we are, then these heat waves are going to be more frequent."

Mullins then told Dr Jones to "shut up", before stating: "What about the patients that are dying because the doctors are going to strike. What about them? The people that are ill?

"There's people who have generally got health issues now, and you're worrying about that. Get real and start concentrating on people. They're being paid to save people's lives, not to kill people."

Dr Jones then backed down, admitting: "I think you and I agree doctors are not going to go on strike about this.

"This is a motion for the BMA to put forward an idea, and the idea is that it's getting very hot and people are going to suffer, and the Government needs to do something about it.

"We're suffering from extreme weather, and Patrick, it's your responsibility to be honest and tell the whole truth to your audience, and you're not doing that."

Patrick then hit back: "It's a little bit hot! I wore a suit to walk to work today, it was fine. A bit sweaty round the back, nothing to write home about. It's not the end of the world, it's just summer.

"But I'm misrepresenting the reality, am I? I'm lying about how hot I was on the walk into work, doctor? I nearly boiled in my own sweat, mate, if I'm being honest."
