NextImg:Scottie Scheffler labelled 'classless' by angry golf fans for behaviour after Rory McIlroy Masters win

Rory McIlroy's Masters triumph was slightly overshadowed by an awkward Green Jacket ceremony with Scottie Scheffler.

The American was asked to present McIlroy with the iconic green jacket by Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley.

After placing the jacket around the new champion, Scheffler quickly moved back and walked off without a handshake.

McIlroy was heard saying "Thanks, Scottie" during the ceremony.

The Northern Irishman then turned to shake Ridley's hand after the chairman congratulated him.

The brief, moment came after McIlroy had achieved one of golf's greatest accomplishments.

Fans on social media were quick to criticise Scheffler's behaviour during the ceremony, with some feeling he should have stayed - instead of walking off.

One fan commented: "That was poor from Scheffler. Didn't even shake his hand. Put the jacket on him and walked off."

Another simply described the World No 1 as "classless".

"What's the story with Scottie? Not even a 'well done' and just melted away. Very awkward," added a third viewer.

The criticism continued with another fan stating: "Very poor from Scheffler."

McIlroy broke down in tears on the 18th green as he completed the golf Grand Slam by winning The Masters for the first time in his career.

The victory at Augusta marked the end of a 11-year wait for a major championship for the 35-year-old Northern Irishman.

By claiming the Masters title, McIlroy has now won all four major championships in golf, completing the prestigious career Grand Slam.

The World No 2 has now joined an elite group of golfers who have achieved this remarkable feat.

McIlroy finished two shots ahead of Justin Rose to secure his historic Masters victory.

Despite the awkward ceremony, the interaction between Scheffler and McIlroy was much warmer on the course.

The two golfers embraced in a hug after Scheffler presented the jacket to McIlroy with a smile.

McIlroy will now set his sights on winning more majors as the 35-year-old looks to dominate golf for many years ahead.

Speaking after his win, he stated: "[The winning moment] I'd say it was 14 years in the making, from going out with the four-shot lead in 2011 - feeling like I could have got it done there.

"There was a lot of pent up emotion that just came out on the 18th green. But a moment like that makes all of the years and close calls worth it.

"I want to say hello to my mum and dad, who are back home in Northern Ireland. I can't wait to see them next week and celebrate with them."
